WANTED: snow tires and rims for 06 CTS 225/55/16

Looking for snows tires and rims. Any recommendations or places to go, much appreciated.
May be willing to buy used from a member here, ( I don't like to buy used stuff from kijiji)

Active Green and Ross quoted me $1300 for everythingashamed.

Willing to buy used as I don't do much travelling in the winter anyways. Could keep on the Michelins, but don't wanna take a chance with RWD in winter. Especially after Crown Vic, slipping and a slidding last year.

Thanks, Mike

Alright,
I was thinking either the Michelin or the Altimax Arctics.

The Michelins on the Cts right now, are pretty good.
I had Goodyear Ultra Grips on the Crown Vic, and in rainy conditions, it kind of sucked. Snow was worse.

tirerack.com has some good prices and with the dollar being strong it often works out cheaper than local, even with shipping...

I was checking them out, But can't find the steel rims on there for the CTS on there.

What if I bought from Tirerack, and got the rims at Canadian Tire, would it work out the same, more or less? Or they won't put them on because I didn't get the tires from there

Frankly, for me ...price is the second thing I look for in a tire. Winter tires ... it's a long second. Canadian tire may have good prices... but I'd rather have both feet nailed to the floor than allow any of their so-called mechanics touch anything I drive. Maybe it's a local phenomena, but every time I (or any of my family) has have the misfortune to have to go to them for service, I've regretted the experience. And that's across 5 different locals.

For winter tires, I've only got two considerations ... Blizzak or Toyo. Blizzak has the superior traction on ice, but they wear faster than any other. Toyo has impregnated fibre and walnut shell in the rubber compound. Maybe a couple of percent less traction on sheet ice compared to the Blizzak, but better on snow covered ice, and a much better wear rating. For a full rural setting, where snow clearing isn't down to the asphalt ... Old school Winterforce with studs would carry the day.... But they're far down the list for city streets.

Ya, you do bring up a good point. I wouldn't bring my car there either.

BEWARE UPS is famous for adding brokerage fees. Find out (and get in writing) what they are before you spend a penny.

Ya, its still a lot of money either way.

Green and Ross charges $150 more, plus they install it. Maybe I'll check with Costco too.

I'll still hold out if anyone has any used ones for sale for now.

I found out about UPS's fees the hard way. Bought $5 of plastic welding rod from Harbor freight. Paid $12 shipping. When it appeared at the door with a bill for $30 of customs brokerage, they got the centre finger salute and told where they could store them.

I later found out about BargainLand ... UPS's little side company for selling off "unclaimed shipments".

haha, I know UPS charges stupid brokerage fees.
I got nailed by that once too. Unless you pay the premium express fees.

Otherwise, for those that don't know, its right here. And these don't include the taxes and duties. This is just there brokerage fees alone.

On PEI we use studded snow tires.

If it were up to me, I would keep the tires I have now, and buy some chains. But now its illegal.

My two cents...Put winters on the existing rims, then when the summers are worn out get 18" tires and wheels from Tirerack. (The same sizes that the CTS V use)

Just a caution about buying rims from places such as CTC.
They'll sell you the generic rim, that is one with the correct bolt circle but a larger than needed center. With these all the stress is on the wheel studs not partially on the center - whatever that part is called.
Have you enquired about downsizing to 15", with the correct rim to clear the rotors. Most shops, including G&R, will provide you with 15" tire that has the same rolling diameter as your original 16". The 15" will be a different width and heigth ratio to arrive at the same diameter. They did it for me, actually it was their suggestion for the MDX.

I was thinking about that as well. You had done this as well right? what rims did you go with? I think it was you that had posted a pic here before.

I went with the V size wheels on the front but actually took it one step further by going larger on the rear (because the trunk line is so high. Glad I did, but staggered sizes is not for everyone probably.)
I'll try to send details tonight on this thread...

If you do a search on KIjiji CTS snow tires. in the Toronto area. Do you guys trust any of the sellers?
Or do you recommend I avoid them.

( I am only gonna do about 5-10km driving a day in the snow) thats why I was thinking used was a good way to go for this year.

I ordered tires from Coker. The shipping fee included all the broker fees. I paid nothing extra at the time of delivery. Call Tire Rack. I assume it's the same.

What do you think of these? will they fit? would you trust buying used?

Paid $1,900 for this set of tires and rims for my Cadillac CTS and used them only one month before upgrading vehicles.  My loss is your gain.  Tires are mounted on Eagle Alloy rims and everything is in as-new condition.  Tires and rims might fit other vehicles but ask that you verify fitment.

I beleive TireRack and UPS will not charge additional charges.
If I get these rims and wheels from Tire Rack, are they simple put on and off, thats it? Do I need to go to an installer? Do I need any rings, etc?
