November 2010 Feature Car

With October behind us we can pretty much say this is  the end of cruising season for most of us. What better way to remember those past warm summer days than to feature a convertible. Brian Calderwood owns this fine 64 Acadian Beaumont Custom convertible. You would be hard pressed to find one as nice. Perhaps daydreaming about being behind the wheel of this fine Acadian with the top down and the warmth of the sun on our face will help us get through the cold winter ahead!

Here's a little more about the car from Brian:

I was not looking for a car as I already had Chevelle and a friend asked if I wanted another. The price not bad, so why not? It was in ok shape to drive so I did for 2 yrs.

I then decided to fix the frame only if bolts came out, other wise I'd sell. Well, it got out of hand! I ended up taking 2 ½ yrs part time to restore. First was the frame (every body bolt came out). I used 20ft of flat plate to repair. I welded in washers for new body mounts. Next, I sand blasted and Powered coated. I cleaned up every part, sand blasted most and re painted.

I replaced one door, one fender and hood hinges. I got everything re chromed except the script (pricey). Dash  was re chromed and painted.

I thought of putting the interior back to original colour but already had black upholstery. I had the body work done then painted. The body guy screwed up the paint bad! A buddy and I ended up wet sanding it and buffing. We started putting everything back together, doors on and everything and then a hinge breaks. We took the doors off and replaced both sides just in case. We really took extra time to make sure everything lined up properly, and that the gaps were good. I buffed all stainless. I also changed to 6in rims. The motor, tranny, brakes and booster were rebuilt.

I had a 64 SD 20yrs ago almost 350,000 miles (drove every were) and scrapped but kept lots of parts and used some of the better ones. The car orginally had  6cyl but had V8 in when I got it. I couldnt find a 6 so left the 8 in.

I sure would like to find some original upholstery though.I did most of the work myself and it was still a pricey restoration!

Well let me the first to congratulate you for the month of November. I loved how the car just jumped out at me when I came on the site here. I can attest to how nice this car is as Brian gave me a tour of the garage with the Chevelle and the Beaumont. This is probably my favorite color combo for a convertible and the 64 grill is my favorite of all the Beaumonts. Hope to hook up with you some place on the road next summer. Again great job on the car.

Very nice indeed Brian!!! As mentioned by Jerel, a great colour combo, and I love the look of that engine bay! (And always nice to see a convertible in such nicely restored condition.)

This is a very nice car. The Feature Car photo is a great shot and the family resemblance with the 1965 Pontiac LeMans/GTO is incredible from that view, right down to the beautiful knock off wheel covers.

Very nice job Brian, be proud of yourself and you have a great car, and doing it yourself makes it even better.
