Just curious, How tough a find would a 348 be? As far as 3 speed bolt action goes, the manual does not show 4 speed or floor shift for 1961 so that would be true to a factory car.
Beaumontguru and I have had a couple of PM's back and forth about bubbletops and something came up I had never thought about before.
Chevrolet also had a bubbletop in 62 but Pontiac never did. Any ideas why that would be? It seems odd that they offered a Belair in that style but Pontiac never offered it for the Laurentian.

Seems to me that Pontiac went with the same roof line as Olds and Buick, sort of a hardtop that looked like a convertible roof. That was the new style and was most likely marketed as a more upscale look. Just my opinion.
Yes, and Chevy also had that look on the Impala in 62, but bubbletop on the Belair.
I'm just kind of trying to reason why Pontiac didn't follow along with Chevy and offer 2 styles also. In those days production costs seemed to mean nothing so it seems odd.

Geez Vern, you were practically in my backyard and you didn't stop to say Hi????? Congrats on the score, I saw it on Kijiji too, thought about going for a look since it was so close, but decided not as I would have ended up like you, and the warden says no more unless I get rid of something, she's not giving up any more of the yard for cars.

Oh I see that a little forethought has gone into this...
Now I'm excited for you Vern
I just don't have the money for a motor right now as it is the 350 that is going in the 61 was supposed to be going in my 57 this winter. I am thinking about putting the 261 out of the 61 in the wagon down the road. I just have to check and see if it has mounting holes for power steering. That is the whole reason I was going to put the 350 in the wagon as there is no place to mount PS on a 57 261.

If I only had any idea where abouts your place is I would of taken a drive by. But as small as Stonewall is I think it would still take a while to find you.

Vern, I thought we had this sorted out already. 348, 3 speed bolt action...
Yes we did and I remember saying I can't afford it. And you said no problem I will just give you the $2200 since you are such a nice guy or did you forget already.

The 61 Pontiac bubbletop is, bar none, the nicest looking car made in Canada or the US in that year in my opinion. I looked at one in 2008 that was beautiful - a 283 Parisienne - but it was too much $$.

I have to agree with you guys I have always loved the look of the 61 BT. I think that is the only reason I am willing to take on a project with this much work. I will be picking it up later today if all goes well. I will get some more pics and then you can see what I mean by lots of work.

You'd have trouble finding me in Stonewall, I'm over in Stony Mountain. I'm in the old part on the top of the hill, just look for the garage with the backend of a 65 Implala over the door.
Well today was a no go this guy is a pain in the a** whiner. He hurt his back and his daughter is home sick from school. So I told him I will be there at 9am tomorrow no if ands or buts
