69 Caprice With Hideways!

I really like the looks of the front end of this Caprice.

The hideways really make it!

I notice Scotti has more cars lately that they consider projects.

Has anyone here seen that 1 of none '67 custom w/ the hideaways?.
Personally I don't care for the rest of the car but the hideaways are very cool!.

a guy here in Calgary is the original owner of a 69 Caprice 427, it has hide-away headlights with headlight washers.

Gotta love that original owner stuff!

Here is another great '69 Chevy site.....

http://www.1969chevy.com/caprice.htm

I just can't get enough of those hideaways today!   smile

According to the web site mentioned above you could order a three speed stick or a choice of two four speed sticks on these cars! Awesome!

I looked at and drove this gold 69 Caprice when the previous owner had it for sale about 6 years ago in Alberta. It was in good shape then (and cheap, asking $8500.00 - last time I checked Scotti wanted more than that for it in project condition) and so I'm not sure what makes it a project car now. But I did note that another Scotti car listed as a project - a 64 Catalina wagon - has sustained serious rear end damage since it was bought out of Nova Scotia about 18-24 months ago.

I love the 69 with Hideaways. My 69 Caprice 4 dr ht has them. This option and the big block were the reasons it appealed to me. I've had it now for 13 years. Plus I scrapped one with hideaways in 2006 (both cars came up from North Carolina with the same owner in 1989, but the parts car spent a lot of time outside and rusted out; mine is rust free). I'm keeping the hideaways - in case I ever get a 69 convt or 2 dr ht.

Ouch!  What a shame... 40e2e3d87f00000101735f848c17c010.jpg

It looked like a very nice car before it left the province:

Wow Newfoundland to Alberta!    gparis7 you sure get around!

I think putting the hideways on a 69 Biscayne or a Bel Air with a set of dog dish steel rims would really throw people for a loop!

John - What kind of interior is in your Caprice (Cloth or Vinyl) and do you have any pictures of it. Out of curiosity how come you didn't go for this Scotti car when you saw it?

I have to admit I like the Sport Coupe (available on the Impala but not Caprice) body style more than the more formal Custom Coupe roofline. But still love those hideways! smile

My Caprice has a blue cloth interior. In the 2 door it's a brocade pattern ( I happen to have a complete interior from a 69 Caprice coupe which is how I know) but the 4 door ht has a solid pattern nylon-like material. I don't have any pics of the inside and it's in dark inaccessible storage right now.

The one and only reason I didn't buy the gold Caprice when it was in Alberta was that it didn't have a big block, and that was really what I wanted. But it had AC, tinted glass, disc brakes, 300 hp 350, T350 trans, came out of Washinton state as I recall. It worked well, drove nicely except for a bit of wandering (maybe wheel alignment), and seemed a little sluggish due to lack of use. But a really nice car.

One of my dream cars to build has always been a black '67 Strato w/ hideaways..
I like all hideaways but the '67 Poncho style most of all and a stock looking '67 Strato hideaway car in black w/ a Mk1V would be outright sinister!!!

Ghost Post - I was thinking the same thing just this morning!

How great would that look with a '67 Grand Parisienne front clip on a two door post Strato Chief or Laurentian. Black of course! Put that on your old cop car and you will have a real Ghost Post.

Just as cool would be the '68 version of the same car with the hideways.

Oh yeah!  smile

PS make mine with an M-21 close ratio 4 speed.

Yep a '68 Poncho Post would be cool too also the L72 an available RPO for '68 that wasn't in '67!.
My RCMP car is already a real Ghost Post but being a Biscayne won't need the Poncho parts!..

Cool car Jonno but not a Post car and actually a 2-Dr. Hardtop!.
Although these Custom Coupes had a similar roof shape to the Post cars they're really hardtops like their Sports Coupe brothers!.

Please pop the hood on your Stude and post a couple o' engine shots!.
Love to see a few of your Gremmie X car too...Levis?.

Thanks Jonno...sweet Stude and wow, A/C too!!!
I always wanted a Daytona Post car w/ factory SBC and a stick!.
Were the SBC cars 66 only or 65 & 66?.

And nice GremX...I was only kidding on the Levis yet you have it!.
Ever seen the Randall 401 Gremlins!.
I had a few AMC's including a nice '67 Rambler 440 Coupe and a '73 Horney w/ a 360 swap!.

Yup Pete you are correct in that only the '65-66 Studebakers had the McKinnon Industries Small Block 283. My car being a '64 is the last of the Studebaker engines, a 289.

I have seen articles on the Randall 401 Gremlins. The 232-6 with the four speed stick is fast enough for an old fogey like me!

OK Mr. Pete, how about some pictures of the Ghost Post!

Todd is correct in that the Stude 289 sounds fantastic, especially through a set of Don Simmons dual stainless pipes. Lots of fun! Thanks for the nice comment 66Grand guy, the '64-66 Studebakers have a style of their own that really works. Stylist Brooks Stevens did a great job turning basically a 1953 car into a very modern looking for that time package.

Back to the Hideways for a second. CDN2PLS2 mentioned he had a set with washers. Was this standard with Hideways, was the washers an option, or are you guys just pulling my chain about this washers thing?

Headlight washers seem like a pretty advanced option the late '60s. My dad had a '67 Buick Riviera with Hideways and it did not have washers.

Any '67-68 Grand Parisienne owners out there want to post picture of their vehicles Hideways?  smile

Regarding the 69 Caprice Headlamp washers ( option CE1). I don't believe it was standard with the Caprice ( with the optional concealed headlights - option T83)

The washers were an option on all  69 Chevrolet 15 - 1600 series , however the concealed lamps were an option on Caprice / Kingswood wagon only
