RE: GM Documentation

OK,I've been using this service 1989 so I'm Not new to it. That was back when Dave and Roy were doing them.A couple of friends and I even had an apointment for a tour of the place in Feb of 1993,but were stood up and given the tour by a secretary, this was after we all booked time off work. After going through my records here are a couple of mistakes found.
L78 listed as 455
LS5 listed as 455
WU3 no info
Here's some all on the Same car:15" Rally wheel,G78x14 tires,13" trim rings. 1972 Gran Prix
This is on a '69 GTO.G94-3:31 and GU5-3:23 ?
These are just a few examples,For sure a VERY valuable Sevice but mistakes Have been made, and I've had some re done.

that's cool Mike, one rare car you have there. Makes me think the other 68 427 car for sale should be beside yours ??

I decided not to use this service years ago because the info available for export cars was so limited but just as costly. In particular there would be no repro of the dealer invoice or window sticker since the car was first sold new in the UK.

Does anyone know if this has changed?

Just bye the bye my avatar of the day has the car parked outside the original Spring '64 delivery address in Bark Place, Queensway, London W2.

CDN2pls2 as I stated before if I did the package or Vintage Services did the package and you paid for it then I will gladly work with you to correct things. When 'Dave and Roy' were doing the packages they were free but there was no quality control to make sure they were done correctly. You may notice that 'Dave and Roy' are not doing the packages since then. Many people received the 'free' packages before 1994, but at some point there is a cost to archiving, storing and retrieving the info, paying rent, plus mailing and salaries.
L78 in various years means different things such as a 400 cid V8, a 396 cid V8, much like A51 or even colour codes change year to year. By providing continuity all these years then Frank and I try and catch an error before it goes out, but we are human and sometimes the microfilm is so deteriorated that we cannot be positive, then we rely on you to correct or work with us.
As far as tours go ( and we are talking about a visit you tried to have about 17 years ago), we are dealing with archived information, and do not provide tours. The production plant at Oshawa will however be giving tours next year, saw that on www.gminsidenews.com, which is something your members may wish to take advantage of. Perhaps even checking with Customer Assistance on a regular basis may help track down this event (1-800-263-3777).

64parconuk I noticed that you have decided not to use our service, and that is fine. Every enthusiast must decide for them selves what info they feel can augment their vehicles history. Owning, restoring and maintaining a 46 year old Pontiac is an effort in itself, let alone one in the UK. All we offer is a bit of history to answer some questions about your car, but it is not of interest to everyone. Unfortunately window  labels are not available for Canadian cars. We can only offer so much, but that is all we have.
Hope that is it for now.

Thanks alot George for the clarification on my car. Gents the reference to less than 13 was to both of the models of the sport coupe and the convertibles had a total 13 L36, M20 cars so either model would be less than 13.

Thanks a bunch !

Rick this probably means the reference to 39 396 4spd 2+2 cars in your case would be both models too.

That is what the documentation said. It's 39 vert and hardtop combined. In 67 the convertibles were approx 25% of the total 2+2's built.
I have seen a hardtop in person and have heard of a convertible in Newfoundland.

George

If I send you the vin for a car that is serial # 3 for that model year can you tell me if it's the first convertible made for that year?
