My 1975 lemans cup edition

I inherited a car as a grad present from my grandparents
it had sat in their back field for the last 14 years
its in good condition for sitting that long but undoubtably has some things that need fixing

I know the steering collumn is messed as well as the drivers side rear quarter panel is pretty rusted, and the alternator was missing too

any info on this car and where to get parts that are necessary and numbers matching if I can would be much appreciated

Hello "burst" and welcome, yup we know these cars.

The best part of owning one of these 1973 to 1977 LeMans cars is the quest for parts. You make a lot of new friends and you might even find what you need along the way.

Body parts are not reproduced so you need to either work with what you have, find a good salvage Parts car or find NOS parts. This era of GM A body has to be one of the hardest to restore due to the fact that very few reproduction parts exist.

Your supply of salvage or parts cars will include any 1973 to 1977 Chevelle, Monte Carlo, LeMans, GTO, Grand Am Grand Prix, Regal, Century, Cutlass, El Camino, Sprint. These all share many of the same components. Surprisingly Firebirds also have interchangeability in many parts.

You car is a very worthwhile to keep and enjoy because it is an important part of Canadian Pontiac history and one that we know not that much about. Exact production figures are not really known on the Cup edition. Some believe that each GM zone office was allotted one or two to sell which would put production under 100 cars. Also in Quebec the cars were sold in Blue and White with Fleur dis lise instead of maple leaf. Engines were 350 2bbl and 4 bbl both orange Chevrolet engines and a Pontiac, blue, 400 4bbl. Very few 400 cars are known to be produced, most being 350 2bbl.cars.

Ask your questions and we will do our best to help.

What engine do you have?

That is good. So it is a Chevrolet engine. You could go to your local Canadian Tire and get a correct AC Delco Alternator for that car today, about 80 bucks. When and if you go they list parts as Orange engine and Blue engine for LeMans, you have orange. US made cars have blue Pontiac 350's and nothing is the same.

You can often avoid confusion and arguments by just telling them you have a 1975 Chevelle with a 350 4bbl. You will get the right part for the engine and much faster too. This tactic is essential if you are dealing with US parts suppliers because they 99.9% of time have no knowledge no do they care to know about a Canadian Pontiac.

Hey Justin, Welcome ... 18 years old and you have a great car.
If you do a search on this website you'll find quite a few threads on the Cup cars.
If you get a chance, I'm sure everyone here would love to see more pics of it.
Now, get it out of that back field!biggrin

If you were two hours or so away i 'd be there tomorrow having a look. More pictures will help.

Everyone is different. Some guys can't stand driving a car unless it is perfect in every way, some guys will drive it as is. My opinion is the car is meant to drive so If I were you I'd concentrate on getting the car going and licensed so you can drive it.

Depending on what it needs you can probably drive and repair as you go. That's my philosophy. I not one to take a car apart and monkey around with it for 10 or 15 years.

You can put another vinyl roof on it, the material is available to do it or you can pay someone else to do it OR you can just paint it white until you figure out what you really want to do.

As far as trim goes what is missing?

She look's like a pretty easy restoration project. There are a few of us into the '73-'77 Pontiac A-Bodies on this site. So, if we can help we will!!

It still wouldn't hurt to pull each plug and squirt a bit of oil in each cylinder and let it sit a day or so before yo try and crank it.

Ray is right. A  broken piston ring can make for a bad day.

Hi Thats a nice car. Just take your time and do things right the first time. One of the other members said to put oil down the cylinders.I would also take the coil wire off and let the motor turn over for a bit to prime it.For how much oil is I would let the car run for a while let it get nice and hot and drain the oil and change it again. Also drian the gas tank and put in a good carb cleaner in it. Since the car was sitting the carb is most likley varnished. Good luck with it How are the floors and trunk.Looking forward to see some pictures
