Tranny whine

Had the car out today and I get a gear drive whine in 2nd gear. 1st and 3rd are fine.

Check you fluid levels after warming up, while in Park. Low is not good, and too hgh is far worse.

FYI Powerglides whine while in Park as a normal phase of operation. I know you are not running a Powerglide, but for those who are...

Kim, you have a THM400 or a 4-gear in this?? I summize THM400? If so, possibly planetarys? (gotta check the spelling on that one) I know I have had THM700 with a whine in second and the planetary set was chewed out on it..........

I'll check the fluid to make sure

It is the turbo 400 and I sure hope it's not the gears. How long did the 700 last till you took it apart. I don't want to rebuild it......want to change it out later with a newer style tranny

Thanks for that!  I had always wondered about that whine with my old 307 PG '68 Beaumont... whether it was supposed to do that or if it was just a sign of wear.

What specifically makes the noise?

I past up on a 64 Corvette convertible years ago, as I didn't like the powerglide whine...  duh..

I had some whining in my new Camaro with 6 speed auto...   It stopped, after the wife got out... duh.
