Keeping the Fever Alive !

In my other role as Canadian Pontiac Specialty Chapter of POCI, News Letter Editor I got an intriguing e-mail last week.

"Did Pontiac ever produced a Parisienne with a 409."

I answered the person thoroughly and politely and the next thing I know Purolator is at my door with a Special Delivery.  Inside I find a CD full of nice Canadian Poncho photos. I received instructions that I could share a couple and the words "Hope this keeps the Pontiac Fever Alive!"

I am pretty sure this will warm up a cold Canadian evening. biggrin

We are hoping to add the car to the registry soon. Owner has GM papers stating build date in April 1965. It is original paint so we have most of the details we need for the registry. I believe it to be the 11.0:1 compression ratio engine with special cam rated at 400 HP that has had the 1964 dual quads added for 425 HP. Of course who knows, it could have left the factory that way back then. That's all for now.

I think it is a Parisienne, that's how it was referred to in my communications BUT it has a grille from a CS plus some extras. I gave Fred a heads up on this car earlier.

Lack of console and buckets. Grab bar above glove box?

I love the nostalgia add on stuff, steering wheel, brake pedal pad (Cal Custom?). I wouldn't do it on my own but it's fun to see.

409 dash emblem I see too.

You know Carl, this is what was done to cars back in those days. All this numbers matching stuff of today must be made up by people who never were there.

This car is pretty original but it is modified as you mentioned. In  those days he probably saw the Custom Sport grille and liked it better so he went out and got one. Then the 66 Grand Parisienne came out and he like the grille lights so he went out and got them, ya a classic wood wheel, remember back then probably only the Cobra had that and expensive British sports cars. What about dual quads, ya lets go to the dealer and get that added too, slap on the 64 decals while we're at it. Almost forgot the chrome headlight covers and the CB. This is one cool Poncho.

Great, love the half moon headlight covers, haven't seen those in a long time.

Factory tach shot is very neat as well.

And of course, the four speed with the bench.

Wow wow wow!!!!!!!!

Awesome find, Ray!  Thanks for continually bringing interesting stuff to the board for us to drool over!

Question: I remember seeing those chrome headlight covers a lot back in the day (when I was just a kid) but I never did know the purpose of them.  Were they just another way to add a little more chrome to the front of the car or did they have a functional purpose?

I am assuming the car is in the same province as Canadian Poncho World Headquarters. I really don't know it's exact location.

As for Half Moon headlight covers they were designed to keep the high beam light out of oncomming cars line of vision but the chrome appearance made them popular with Hot Roders in the 50's and through the 60's. I think they look really cool.
