Apparently there was a woman named Baba Vanga who was considered by some to be a prophet. She apparently predicted Sept 11, the sinking of the submarine Kursk among other events. What has my son worried is her prediction that WWIII will begin this month. He is worried at this prediction because of the tension in Korea.
Some of the later predictions are laughable however it does remind me of when I was a bit younger than him and my grade 8 teacher telling us how there were enough nuclear weapons to wipe out the earth several times over. This was in the middle of the Cold War and I remember have a big knot in my gut thinking "Well, I guess I'll never learn to drive a car or have a family". It's a shame his generation has the same fears.
It really is a scary world and I imagine it must be pretty scary living in Seoul right now.
Feel free to comment, however let's not make this a thread rife with racism. Constructive comments only!
Yes, the world is scary. Almost every day I wonder what I've done, bringing children to this world amidst all this uncertainty. I worry for their safety, that they may marry the wrong person, that they will struggle to find a career and so much more.
I will not turn this into a religious thread either Todd, but when I have all those worries, I remember the promise in there over and over that God will protect us and provide for us.
I would be willing to guess our parents had exactly the same worries...

Ray I don't know if this will help but all I can say is that there is more garbage on the internet than ever filled the streets of Toronto during any garbage strike.
I used to lose sleep because of the stuff i heard on TV and the radio when I was a kid and I think it even affected some of my life decisions. (like why should I bother to do (Fill in the blank here)? we're all going to be dead or in uniform in xxx year anyway.)
Just live like you want to live. Deal with what comes up.
This is my advice, Don't worry about things that are out of your control and try to keep a positive outlook, never answer an angry word with an angry word, it's the second that starts the quarrel.

Wow, no one ever called me a wise man before, feels kinda spiritual this close to Christmas. Thanks Vern !
Heard the same thing from one of my teachers Todd,gr 6/7. I wonder if they have it in them to realize the affect their having on some of these young kids with some of their "teachings" in class!!! Even now some of the things my son has come home with. I'll end it their !!!

I remember being 10 years old when the Cuban missle crisis was going on, and being worried about being wiped out by a nuclear strike on the submarine base in Bremerton, Wa. Vancouver being in quite close proximity. We still have enough nuclear weapons to wipe us out many times over. They've never gone away. It's just that some of the less stable countries now are close to having nuclear capability, or already have it.
The end of the world predictions, have been going on forever and will continue to go on for ever and ever. I do not buy any of it. Apparently the world should have ended many times by now. All i can say is, why worry about stuff we have no control over. Try to be happy in ones own life. Be a good person to your fellow man, as long as they are treating you with decency. Enjoy all this very short life has to offer and try to be happy in spite of all the incredible !@#$%^&* stuff we have to deal with every day. Doomsday predictions will never put a damper on my spirit. Have another beer. Cheers. George.

If we could recycle ourselves and keep our life lessons intact, maybe we'd finally learn something and stop making the same mistakes over and over again. But that's not the case and that's why there will always be disputes, winners and losers, redrawn boundaries. Korea is a front to force new talks between the US and China over political influence, TRADE and debt management. I read recently that Ontario hydro rates were tripled for no reason other than to cover China debts on money borrowed in the 70s to pay for our nuclear reactors.
If you watch CNN on a regular basis, you might as well move into your bomb shelter right now! They are the worst "doomsday" sayers, they must be on the US governments payroll! Most governments want their citizens afraid.
Back in late 1990, early 1991 there was a rebroadcast of a special about Nostradamus that had originally aired in 1979/1980 and was narrated by Orson Welles. I don't remember details but i do recall them mentioning of impending world war and that was supposed to have happened right around that time, during the Gulf War. Pretty scary stuff for even a 15 year old to see. Nevertheless here we are. Help him get educated on the idea that these kinds of predictors have been around for a long time. What happens is that others then interpret what's being said, and it always seems to be of fire and brimstone doom and gloom. Reassure him that these are but opinions of what may happen and are no means what is going to happen.
