old Guitar

I was givin this guitar by a customer when her husband passed. All she remembers about it is they bought it at a shop in Santa Cruz on the 15th wedding in 76 so I think it's a lawsuit guitar. It's a 2 piece and 3 screw in the head so definitly not real. The back plate says japan so I am leaning towards  Ibanez. The guy took it apart to refurbish it I like the beat to death look so I put it back together ,but I think I am going to clone Thomas Bredahl's Gibson it's the same color and he is my favorite guitarist. Anybody have a guess?

I know El Degas made a lot of knock offs in the 70's/80's.
They had more of the open book headstock tho.

i would say tokai or just a cheaper knockoff. Look in the body cavity where the wireing is and see if its solid wood or not. I beleive tokai was solid, and El Degas or Hondo guitars were a layered wood type stuff. I have a cheap hondo sitting here and its layered with a bolt on neck.

The headstock says no to an El Degas as they really tried to get the gibson look. Not all El degas were cheap some had solid wood bodies, set necks and neck thru on their gibby replicas.

really, i dident know that, all ive seen or had were the cheap ones. I have had a couple really nice old ibanez clones, both were strat style. Man I wish i had those now!! I have a cheap Hondo II that i picked up at a garage sale for ten bucks, was going to use the neck for another guitar i was making but it ended up playing really well and i just never got around to makeing another body. Heres me and one i made for my brother in law, hot rod inspired for sure.

its just a bolt on neck, strat pickups, and its made out of sapele mahogany. Im doing a fretless bass for myself finally that is like a Carl Thompson bass, the ones that Les Claypool from Primus uses. Ive made 9 guitars so far, and 2 basses. Ive only done one for myself but it was stolen (i'd give anything to have it back!!) I just wish that i took pictures of them all, there was some pretty neat ones, including the playboy bunny logo one like gibson made.
