Friends New Find Vin I.D.

My friend brought a 1960 Pontiac Ventura, 2 dr. hardtop home this weekend from Sask. The body work and paint is all done and there is a newer SB in the car. The chrome needs to be installed and needs some interior attention. Bought it for a Texas Mickey, Great Deal!!! The car fired up last night after many years of sitting outside.

My question is, does anybody know what motor would have come in this car?

Vin is 36005466

Thanks,

If it is indeed a Ventura [Catalina] it would have had a US 389 V8 in it originally!! Could have been changed by now. Can you post a Picture of engine & I can tell you in a second of seeing it!!! Pete

Engine

The base engine for the 1960 Ventura was a 389-cubic inch V8 engine with an overhead valve. The engine produced either 215 or 283 horsepower, depending on how it was configured. It had 214 hp at 3,600 rpm, with a compression ratio of 8.6:1. It had a two-barrel Rochester carburetor and a cast-iron block. A manual Synchromesh transmission came standard.

I' m aware of 2 1960 Venturas 2 door hardtops. Both were 389 tri power cars. A silver one in Sarnia, On. Can't remember if a 4sp or auto. The black one in Michigan was a 4spd

I heard that those Chevy motors aren't too bad in a Pontiac, they work in US cars but some people don't like it confuse

I fondly remember my old 60 Cat. The 389 is a great engine.

Thanks guys!

It now has a later model SBC in it. So can't take any pics of the motor compartment, but I should be able to get some of the car for you guys.
Just curious on the original motor.

Everything we can find says Ventura. I love this car!!

Ok saw the sb in 1st post but some folks refer to the later Pontiac 350 as a SB even though they aren't!! Last Post states it's a SBC [nothing wrong with that] A few yrs. ago I helped a friend haul out a 371 Olds. out of a 57, & we dropped in a 327 w/a turbo 350 trans. That made a few Olds. guys do a double take a some shows, but the car was reliable & easy to get parts for the d/train!!!!
