This is Saugeen's Abbygail Orchid, otherwise known as Abby our 10 year old Airedale bitch and mother of 40 puppies over her career. Two years ago this past June Abby had a mastectomy due to malignant tumours on her breast. Two weeks after that surgery tumours had returned and two different Specialists gave her two months to live.
I told my wife and children that we all had to pray for Abby and I would guarantee that she would swim in Georgian Bay the next summer and she did. I told them again and she did. In conjunction with our prayers my wife did some research and started her on a regime of Wild Salmon Oil and 150 ml of Meloxicam every day. Our Vet helped us with this and every member of our family makes sure she gets her meds every day.
I though I would show you a photo of her today. I put her out in her run at 6:30 this morning and its now 4:00 pm and she hasn't asked to come in once. I fed her outside and bring her water which turns into ice after a while. It's -10 or so here today but out she stays more often than not curled up on the snow napping in the sunlight.
We have more than one dog and we've had lots of dogs but we thank God every day for Abby.
i love stories like this, way to go ray! we have 3 labs, mom, is a yellow british lab, dad is a black american lab, and son, who will be 1 yr old dec. 29th, is already 92lbs! and he was the runt! we will be having 1 more litter this spring, and thats it.our dogs sleep in our queen size bed with us!, yup theres not alot of room, unless they,re placed just right. we love our dogs more than we love most people, so once again ray, hats off to you, and your family, for looking after such a cherished family member!
Cool story Ray! Abby sounds tough for what she's done and what she does, but the way you talk about her, I bet she is a real a sweetheart.

Sweetheart to me, but she's got 2 kills to her credit, one raccoon and a squirrel and a TKO on a 18 month male Pit Bull that was a bit too aggressive for his own good, that was fun to watch
Your wife is like mine. She always researches treatments and cures for our pets. Our oldest cat Maddy is 16 and still going strong. She has thyroid issues and hip dysplasia and both have been successfully treated using natural cures.
Thanks for sharing Abby with us Ray. Nice to see prayer at work. It reminded me of a dog we had on the farm as a kid. When he was just over a year old, he had a softball sized tumor removed from his belly and the vet said it would likely return very quickly. The vet wasn't too optimistic to say the least. He figured the dog had less than a year to live. If the dog could have talked to the vet that day, I'm sure he would have heard the dog say BS. That dog lived another 15 years and every second of it outside. Even at -35C the dog would not come in the house. He was part Husky, so he'd curl up in the snow with his nose under his back leg and he'd be content.
Thanks again Ray for sharing. It brought back some great memories of my dog.
Hey thanks fellas, I wasn't sure how my little story would be received but yesterday I was just watching her outside, knowing what she has been through and thinking how well loved she is and how much joy she has brought to us and 38 other families. (We kept two of her offspring) This site never ceases to amaze me, how many common bounds we all seem to share......oh geez getting sentimental but of course that happens at Christmastime.
Terrier B's are great! She's a great dog, and she probably held on longer because she heard the two specialists and flipped them the bird the only way a terrier knows how! Walk away, head proud and doing her own thing!!
Great story! I love airdales!
At 12 weeks Maggie got sick, and the vet told me to say good bye....i tell you that sucks!! here she is pushing 6 years!...still noone tells her what to do!!

Hey Carl? The last photo of Normie resembles you when you aren't wearing your glasses! It really IS true when they say that pets resemble their owners; or vice-verse I guess. LOL! And Ray, Buddy, I'd expect nothing less from a fella like YOU to do the utmost in the preservation of a loved one. We all love our babies! Christmas time or not. Of course our ****er spaniel is eagerly awaiting the arrival of Santa Paws this year. LOL!
