He must have gotten that engine from a salvage GTO, I see a lot of GTO engines on ebay. I think a lot of GTO's have been totaled down south.

I saw a Chev of that vintage the other day powering through the snow and sleet.  It left everybody else in the snowbanks.  And no rust.

One of the wrenches at JB Racing has one of these for his winter car, but it is almost perfect, maybe that's the one you saw Lora.

We commend you for knowing that is a Chevrolet and the same vintage as the Malibu subject car, but school is in for today. That my dear is a Nova.

Actually, to me it looks more like a Ventura/Phoenix with the one piece tail lamp!!! I had Novas in the past as well as the Concours and the Nova is a 2 piece lamp and the Concours is a longer lamp...........

If it is indeed a Pontiac, which I believe it is, I commend JetFan in keeping with the Pontiac theme!!!

 Back to school for some.......

It has Pontiac hubcaps too! That would be a rare car. I haven't seen a Phoenix in years.

Oh No, Big Ray gets Detention. I actually blew it up to see if it was a Ventura or Phoenix but my old eyes are so bad I took a gamble on Nova lumping Concours in as a Nova.

I like that Malibu!!!! I got my drivers license in my buddies 78 Malibu. It was rotten as most G bodies are/were, but we drove the wheels off it.

I love those. Had an 80 2 dr with landau roof, buckets, console, was black with red interior and loaded. 305. now the original owner has the car back, a friend of mine. he had to sell it due to hard times and I traded it in to a dealer and then he bought the car back. still has original paint to this day. I have always wanted to hotrod a wagon. full frame cars, always a soft spot for those cars. Id love to own that one as he did an amazing job. Id either do some dog dish steelies or a set of 20s with torque thrust wheels. But hey thats just me. Those tiny tires and wire wheel hub caps wont last long with that power train! Nice car, this is my car and sits exactly the way it is in the photo to this day. Orig paint. I owned it around 1995.

That 79 Malibu Classic Landau is a nice sleeper indeed. Power and economy should be improved with that swap. A lot of those cars came with the crappy little 4.4 liter 267 V8. At least the car would be set up for small block already so you could swap in a crate 350 or 383.

MorePower, that 1980 looked nice. One could still order a 305 with a 4-speed that year. Back in 1980 a friend's father had a new Malibu Classic with a 229 V6. It went so well that I had to check under the hood and count the plug wires; I just couldn't believe it was the base six judging by the way it moved.

This is rhetorical, but why do those 78 and up GM intermediates have a following and the 73-77 are the lost generation? I like these downsized A or G bodies too, especially the slippery nose  LeMans and Grand Ams.

I'll throw it out there for discussions sake that the '78 and ups gained popularity in the late 80's early 90's as affordable, solid and light cars that can accept an easy sbc swap, and a bbc swap with some mods, these were built as sleepers, some not so much... but in response to mustangs being light, fast and modifiable...GM had nothing to counter with... they were plentiful and easy to find rust free (compared to older muscle cars)...out of high school there were quite a few around here 2 and 4 doors running 12's, 11's and faster...clean crisp lines too!!
