Not a good year for Dennis Gage from "My Classic Car"

I feel sorry for Dennis. He seems like a decent guy. His house just burnt down while he was in Chicago tending to his gravely ill mother:no

Fire destroyed the home of Dennis and Ellen Gage at 13930 Brownwood Lane early Thursday morning. The cause of the blaze is under investigation.

He does seem like a real down to earth guy. He was at the Penticton show about 3 years ago. Luckily no one was hurt by the sounds of it and a person can always rebuild. Just an inconvenience for awhile. Life goes on. Funny thing is if it was my house or someone else's on here no one would know.

Wrong. We would and we would give a damn, too.

Well I appreciate that but I was just reflecting to myself of how celebrity status makes the difference if just something that happens everyday goes unnoticed unless it is a celebrity.  An example I saw yesterday was when Pierre Turgeon (ex-NHLer) lost his 18 year old daughter in a tragic car accident in the States.  There was also a 19 year old passenger that was clinging to life.  Many condolences were being made to the Turgeon family (rightfully so) but of those comments there was nothing being said to the family whose daughter was battling for her life.  From the sounds of it she may have just been a regular person like us.   Just an observation on the different treatment for people and it will always be that way.  I'm not a callous person but sometimes it bugs me and I just needed to share that.  The other families go through just as much pain but nothing is said.

I understand the point, but unfortunately that is the way the world works these days. If you watch the entertainment news shows every celebrity is so well known they don't need last names to be identified. Our society is just so focused on the famous and the entertainment media fosters it. Makes no sense to me but I can't change it.

I'm glad no one was hurt here. I agree Dennis Gage does seem like he's a genuine down to earth person - more so than many celebrities. And I agree we should always remember the not so famous who are sometimes victims of mishaps involving the famous.
