What's with this fist bump crap?

I must of missed the memo saying a traditional handshake is out of style. Last week my boss walked up to me to wish me a Merry Christmas and I extended my hand to shake his. He says "No, we do it this way" and does the fist bump. I felt a little insulted by it. I watched him with my co workers and he did the same thing. It's not an age thing as he is older than me. So, tonight I'm watching one of those reality shows where these young real estate agents sell million dollar homes and sure enough, a deal is clinched with a fist bump! Call me a cynic but I don't feel a fist bump is a sign of another persons word, or good intentions. Maybe it's a germ thing. My boss was just getting over a cold however the hand sanitizer dispenser was 10 feet away. And if that was the case maybe he should have said something.   Maybe I'm just old fashioned...

Plus one here Todd. Leave that for the gangsta's...

As a matter of fact Todd, when we finally meet some day, I'm gonna give you a hug. Put that in your pipe and smoke it, all you "too cool dudes"!

totaly agree, i think its for the young people who "think" its cool. Im only 34 yrs old and i think a handshake is a sign of respect still and always should be. And speaking of germs, were all getting "too" sanatized and i think thats why were getting sick. Dirt is good for you, especially car grease!!

When the young folk give me a fist bump, I return it and say "Shazzam", to which they respond "huh?"...

The only thing worse than the bump is one of those "wet noodle" (weak) handshakes.

I keep my hands in my pockets and give nothing more than a nod.

We can fix that for you with a firm handshake  (my hands are warm)

didn't Howie Mandell "promote" the bump?  because of his germ phoebia

Do a firm handshake or just stay home! Whats the point of this bump thing? When some one puts their fist out I put both hands cupped underneath as if to recieve something.

While we're on this what is with a half hug? You know the one where one grabs your hand and leans in?

I don't care - I'll shake hands, fist bump or do nothing at all - whatever the other person prefers.

I don't mind either but I actually prefer when we jump up and touch bellys. It's more natural for me.

Haaa!  Rumor has it that there's a drywaller in the Edm area that does that in a garage with his brother in law...

It gets tougher all the time. I prefer the open handed old style handshake, but what about the thumb shake, the closed fist finger/knuckle shake, and how about the all of the above combo? But my all time favorite is the koko bonk. Nothing says pleased to meet you like post concussion syndrome.

Hey they do it all the time on Passtime ... "gimme a pound".biggrin

What bugs me, is when a guy extended his hand in the past, you knew it was going to be a traditional handshake ... now you don't know what to expect ... some awkward moments!

Hand bump. 'gimme five', whatever that complicated thing was black folk used to do, all fads, they too shall pass.

Hand shake = peace, trust and friendship, for thousands of years past, and will for thousands of years in the future (or at least until civilization ends)
