Ordering parts in Ontario?????

I tried to keep my $$ in Ontario but had to go Stateside for "service" I wanted an EZ wiring harnes, talked to the co. & they gave me 2 suppliers in Ont. !st one was in Bloomfield Ont. & I passed on that one as a nother person had ordered a pile of parts from them & never saw one pc. no money involved!! Next was Woody's hot Rod, emailed them to order it. Got a reply from a company with a diff. name Coach House something, they said they could get it but I would have to wait till "spring" before they would put a order in??  "HELLO" I need this NOW!!!! I checked with DALE at NOS but didn't hear back untill after I phoned EZ direct & ordered it, but NOS didn't have it.Had the harness shipped to Charleston W.V. & my contact there will bring it to Ohio in Jan when I go to get the rear gears etc. that I ordered from Summit Auto, Found one co. in BC that has the gear set[IWE gears] but they want more than double the price + shipping So spending more $$$ stateside!!! Good excuse for "ROAD TRIP" though "don't you think??????

I buy as much as i can in Canada and have had great support from NOS for the Camaro parts I need, but sometimes you just have to go to the US (Ames for eg if you have a US Pontiac), or just because the product line, services, or prices are better.

Example: I bought a replacement wood steering wheel for one of my cars. A local supplier could have sourced it but I never got an answer on shipping or price so I bought it from a supplier in Pennsylvania that I'd never used before. I got an excellent price, parts & service for a piece that all the parts retailers have access to.

i usually only buy from my local guy (sudbury custom auto) he treats me great. on ocasion though i need or want a summit racing exclusive part, so i have to order there. when i order stateside, i,m usually paying through the nose for shipping and waiting till the next hotrod season for my parts. when i order through my local guy, i,m paying about 5% more, and have my parts in 2 days. therefore i preffer to shop local

I'm willing to pay more to stay on this side of the border .... but I damn well want my money's worth. I want service, and I want effort.

I like to buy Canadian, but Canadian retailers, have not got the grasp of Internet selling....

With 300 million Americans vs 30 million Cdn's  we obviously are bombarded with product from U.S.

I have all my packages shipped to  SCC Parcel Pickup in Port Huron Mi

My wife goes over every month, and combined with the stuff she buys, it ends up duty free...

Most  retails are offering free shipping to all 48 states    Saves me a lot...

Yep, you don't want UPS to ship across the border, or you'll be "bend over Rover" on the brokerage fees [ should be called Robbery] That's why I usually have it shipped to an adrr. in the states & then pick it up, or go directly to Summit, pay cash, so no Visa trail for border guards!! Allways good to get away sometimes for a couple of days EH ????

I have a mail box across the river here in Niagara Falls that handles all my packages. Short drive and if I`m at the boarder early, there is no line ups. Many years ago I bought 400 tokens to cross at a cost of .60 each . Its now $3.75 to cross. I gas up at the Indian res. and it was 3.03 a gallon. Almost pays to cross. I picked up $600 in engine parts today, paid $78 to the tax man to bring it in. Most guys selling on e bay would rather ship to a US address

If you shipped your stuuf close, you would save $$$$ on the road trip and beer  You could then buy a membership...   lol

Not living in a border province, I don't have the option to cross an pick anything up. But you're right about UPS - the fees are huge. I try to use the mail whenever possible.

when ordering a part through ups tell the shipper you will broker it yourself, when it comes in ups will phone you, so you go pick up the paperwork and in our case the airport is the closest broker, pay 8 to 25 bucks depending on how much your spending, and go back and pick it up. time wise takes 20 minutes to halfhour to do this. or just order through jegs, they fed ex it.
