1960 Strato-good value??

http://classifieds.castanet.net/showproduct.php/product/634970/cat/150

So I'm looking for a simple project for my son and I-this one seems to fit the bill and everythings there but the floorboards!! Any cautions or things I should be aware of with this year/model?

Mark, I'd want to get that up on a hoist before doing anything!!!! Check the frame up over rear end area & up front as well. A few good taps with a hammer all along the frame & X member. Floors are one thing, "bad" frame is a "whole different ball game" Being a "stick" car opens a lot of different doors, ie. leave it on the "tree" or convert to 3 spd. floor shift, OR 4 or 5 spd with either stock 6cyl. or "WOW I could a had a V8" If frame is solid then it's a GOOD BUY!!!!

Just for your information the complete repro floor is available in one piece ,fits nice in my case . The braces would have to be bought seperatly and welded on. Have fun ,its nice that your working with your son .

Hey mark, i would say as long as the frame is solid enough, go for it. I havent seen pics of the 59 lately, on here or the 59 site, have some?? If I had the time and money I would pick that up for sure, it would be cool to have two rare one year cars.

Mark, didn't mean to "scare" you off it, just check it out first,so you don't end up with the "ol, CAN OF WORMS" I have looked at a few cars [Cdn. Ponchos] that were pretty "BAD" in the frame dept. but then there not all Bad, just make sure!!!!!

I'm with Pete. Bad frame is the kiss of death - get it up in the air & check it ouot.

Also, with that much rust on the hood, and the age of the car, very likely rusted out/repaired quarter panels (in addition tothe rust I can see in the side photo), bring your magnet and check for bondo on the body too.

I am not a fan of 4-doors, but if you and your son don't mind it, the 1960 is a very appealing car. And $1000 for a running car is a bargain!

Mark, if he wants to sell it he should be acommadating to you?? Maybe he's knows something you don't [YET} Hate dealing with people like that, you don't know if thats just the way they are, or wether they don't want to put themselves out to sell the car, take it or leave attitude!! I sometimes "leave it" & walk away!!!!
