Help, I want to run a GM 5 spd. in the 52 Torpedo back. have been "told" that a S10 5spd. out of a 4.3 V6 is the one to get??? I don't have room on F/wall for a Hyd. M/cyl. due to the Pwr. brake unit thats there. Is there a trans that has the conventional clutch fork?? or can I bolt one of these to a reg. chevy. b/hsg. Change the "booster thats there now?? to a smaller one. This is sitting on 84 Olds or Monty chassis & I "assume" the booster is from that chassis, as well as b/pedal & strg. column. I'm going to order a complete clutch & b/pedal set up from Penn. USA. close to $500 for complete set up pedal to fork for 78 to 87 Monty. & don't want to make a mistake here,[ a 5oo US mistake] Camaro trans [ I was told] has the shifter coming out on an angle, & makes in awkward to get it straight up??? I'm going to be running at least 300 HP SBC with 3:42's[7.5 GM rear end] out back & 245x60x 15" rubber on the rear!!! Any suggestions

Does that $500 include a bellhousing? The reason I ask is, I think the bellhousing for the 5 speed is different than the 4 speed the 78-87 G body used, isn't it? I'm not certain but thought I better mention that now.

If you use the Camaro T-5, it was turned 15 degrees to make it fit better and you will need the bellhousing from the Camaro to make it work.

Only some of the S-10 came with T-5's. Later models used a New Process transmission as did the full size pick ups.

Having done a lot of research into this as I am looking to put a five speed into my Astre, I am beginning to think that the cost for a brand new one isn't sounding so bad. The S-10 transmissions were not the "world class" variety. Some of the Camaro ones were but not all. In looking into this, I figure buying a used transmission , the rebuild kit , and any gears you might need, on top of the labor, the new one is looking better and better...

There are complete kits for swapping automatic to manual transmissions and all sort of stuff you might need or want,

There are many really good sites to go to:

You can buy smaller booster , check ebay for a variety...
wilwood makes the master for the clutch, with a remote reservior, the street rods also use a 90' pedal assembly so that everything tucks up under the dash..  the arm swing and master cyl are 90' to each other ,, very slick..

just options if your looking...

Carl, no that didn't include the B/hsg. Everything else, Pedal to the clutch fork!! If I could find a Iraq'y Taxi the whole set up is "supposed" to work too??? But I don't think thats going to happen!!!! Would GM still have those parts?? Even if I could get the pedal, cross shaft etc. I could "fab" the rods!! Dr CAS those sites were "enlightening" to say the least!! Every good info there.  Thanks  Pete

i have a T-5 in my 55 gmc out of a camaro with a s10 tailpiece for the mechanical speedo drive. i used the original style bell-housing because my rear motor-mounts are on the bell-housing. that being said there are 2 sizes of trans pump holes in the old bell-housing. also i had to use the older style starter that bolts to the bell-housing

Just remember that the t5 (world class or not) was not designed for high horsepower, thats why you couldn't buy a thirdgen f-body with a 350 and a clutch. Only available with a 305. I have a wc t-5 in my bird, If you are close by, pop on over and have a look at the bellhousing. If you are interested in finding a wct-5, I belong to a site where it would probably be a snap to pick up what you need.
Mike.
