yes why cant we make them here in bc we had germany make us a couple of ferrys and bc had to pay the feds 30 million in gst.The big problem with canada is we ship out to much raw materials and we import in to many finished goods,at least we still make beer!

To the question why buy from Germany. My wife's Maid of Honour family's company made these sort of items right in Toronto for many years dating from pre-World war I until about 20 years ago. Competition was tough because of the high costs of manufacturing here. One day the bank called their operating line and with two years of contracts on the floor that sent them into bankruptcy. It was a very emotional experience for a company that survived two world wars and the depression, just like losing a member of the family. They were one if not the last company in that business in Canada. It is a typical story though the third generation blew it. Her father ran the company from after WWII where he served as a Wing Commander in a Bomber group. It was less than two years after he retired that his son lost it.
