What is your "CP Claim To Fame?"

I was thinking about our diverse group. We are here because our common ground is Canadian Ponchos.

What makes you so special in the world of CP?

-Own a super duper rare one?

-Someone in your family owned that rare one?

-You worked on the assembly line building them at some point?

-Wrote a book on them?

-Buy/sell parts for them for a living?

I guess I am interested in knowing what it is about you that could get you into the "CP Hall of Fame"....!

Fire away!

The First car I can recall riding in (You never forget your first)was my Dad's 66 Grande Parisienne..It was just meant to be...although the neighbours 67 Impala left a very deep impression on me as well..I remember the fiberoptic panel on the rear deck that let you know if the tail lights were working or not

I'm a Canadian Poncho Superstar, one of only five members with that status.

At #3 that makes me the Gordie Howe of Canadian Poncho. biggrin

I guess my 66 Grande Parisienne big block transistor ignition car would be the rare car.

The trophy on the wall given to me my John Sawruk at POCI in 1986 for Most Interesting Post War Pontiac would be the bragging rights thing as far as notoriety.

And I guess the buying and selling Canadian Pontiac parts and collecting literature/memorabilia for about 37 years now would be the remainder of it.

Oh, and I don't think there has ever been a time in my life since I was 16 that I have not been in posession/ownership of a Canadian Pontiac/Beaumont/Acadian vehicle.

Your turn!

My dad ordered a 65 beaumont SD L-79 4spd brand new ( one of 23) and I own a 65 L74 SD 4spd Cheetah ( 1 of who knows). Both of us have a original 65 SD 4spd car in the present to drag race each other with. I can't wait for the cheetah to be done. It might be hard because he has a rollerized 350 and all I have is a 365HP 327. I have others but the connection to my dad is king.

My Astre Panel Express was one of 421 built in 1973.

I drove 7 hours to have coffee with some CP motorheads in Manitoba and enjoyed every minute of it.

Let's put it this way, Paul Henderson is not in the Hockey Hall of Fame and he scored three game winning goals to beat the Russians in 1972 and arguably the greatest goal of all time to win the series, so single outstanding accomplishment are not an automatic. smile

That's nothing compared to driving 7 hours one way to have coffee with the Manitoba group...

I was inspired by an uber poncho car guy and found the site through him.  I'm more of a writer than a collector.  The site has opened up my mind to car speak and I have worked Canadian poncho's into everything I write since signing on.  It's become my signature.

Maybe not but in 1997, on the 25th Anniversary of "The Goal", Paul Henderson was immortalized on a postage stamp issued by Canada Post and a silver coin by The Royal Canadian Mint.

How cool was that?

I  am a 63 year old  retired boomer who keeps his 66 Sd still as it makes me feel 40 years younger every time that I fire it up. It has  also been great as we have  made many new friends and has become a real social thing  as we get older and have less work related things to occupy our time.

I grew up in a town in New Brunswick, where the local druggist, owned one of the rarest 67 SD396 Beaumont convertibles ever  (1 of 66)smile
I have photos, of it remains, still sitting, in a field in Nova Scotia.

In 1979, I "accidentally" bought a 1967 Red SD396 Beaumont convertible (1 of 66)

And in the same town in N.B., the local Undertakers son, ordered one of the rarest 1966 Pontiacs ever..   White 2 door sedan Pontiac Strato Chief 396-325 4 speed...smile

I own,   1 of 2792 1966 Pontiac Strato Chief 2 doors ever built..
Car is from Toronto and is unrestored and had larger engine added in 1991.
and after 45 years, is one of the rarest cars in North America nod.gif

I have owned another 10 Pontiacs in the 45 year time frame..

I am one of the Canadian Poncho super stars, and try to check in occasionally....C2

I'm really more a groupie of the real stars here like Ray, the two Carl's and a few other cool CP owners!.
I drilled a hole in Henderson's goal wining puck to use it as a body mount on my '67 Biscayne!.
It has the same frame and drivetrain as a Canadian Pontiac B-Body so obviously the real reason I hang out here is looking for weird old Pontiac parts that fit my car 'cause it's waaaay cheaper than buying the expensive Chevy stuff!.
