68' Nova SS COPO L79

1968 Nova SS

1968%20Nova%20SS.jpg

We like them old school with a twist and this one fits the bill.  Start with a real Nova SS L79 car without the original motor and 4 speed, and then add:

  • Professional rotisserie restoration (inside and out),

  • Power 4 wheel disc brakes,

  • Hidden traction bars,

  • Red Line radials,

  • Richmond 5 speed,

  • 12 bolt posi (3.73),

  • 1968 date correct, Ken Murray pro built 427 big block with aluminum heads and a 4 barrel that will swallow a small dog.

What you end up with is: 500 HP, 550 ft. lbs. of torque in a sleeper wrapper that is all business, COPO style.

In the day, an L78 Nova with automatic was in the top three fastest muscle cars of all time; this rocket ship lives up to that heritage.

Price on request.

If that is the car that was at the big outdoor fall Winnipeg car show in 2009, it is absolutely unbelievable. I don't think I have ever seen such a perfect car...

Where is that ad from?

Oh, and for the record, if I am not mistaken, there were no L79 68 Nova SS cars made. I believe all 68 Nova SS cars were 350's. It had to be a non-SS to get an L79.

Wow, have to agree with you. That is one of the worst classic car sites I've seen.

(Hope nobody on here designed it!!!)

Did you check the location of Rocky Mountain Classic Cars?

Just outside of Winnipeg!!! I love it!!!

Takes guts to name your business after mountains out here, where you can see for 25 miles!

Neat car, but if you're going to put a 427 in there, put a set of wheels on that thing and ya Carl and the price !

I believe Carl's correct on '68 L79's being non SS cars but thought a few execeptions had surfaced?.
Cool car but any Copo reference here isn't true and a cheap-shot way to advertise as the only '68 Copo Novas built were the Fred Gibb L78/M40 cars..
50 built as Copo 9738, all w/ the unique 'E3' Suffix L78 396/375Hp and special competition prep M40 Automatic!.

My info says there were no '68 L-79 SuperSports but there were several hundred big blocks. Chev offered the L79 up until fairly late in the 1968 production run then ended them with the introduction of the 396s. As far as I know neither the L79 nor 396 were advertised in '68.
I show 1,274 L-79s, none with the SuperSport option although with COPO's you never know. There were 6,571 SuperSport Novas in 1968. Broken down by engine there were 5.670 L-48s (350/295 hp), 234 L34s (396/350 hp) and 667 L78 (396/375 hp) models.

Now, does anyone know if there were any L79 or big block Acadians from the factory?

That question is answered with a no if the parts book is to be considered correct, but as you say, never say never!

I'd agree that in 68 the L79 Novas were non-SS. The Nova SS came with the L48 350.

As far as there not being any Nova SS396 ads, I have an original 1968 Nova SS ad with the hood removed showing an orange and chrome 396. The text mentions the newly available 396. To my knowledge that is the only GM authorized Nova SS396 ad (hey, wasn't 1968 also the year of the Woodward Ave. GTO ad?)

Thanx Carl, I called my friend on his 68 L79 and he said it is not an SS and he knew they never made SS L79 novas in 68

Thats probably the best way to get the wife to learn how to drive a 4 spd, side step the clutch at 4500, better then getting them back and forth shakes of an unexperience 4 spd operator!! I'm sure many guys here know what I'm saying. biggrin

Again and as in my previous posting, reference to being a factory Copo doesn't apply to this car as the only '68 factory built Copo Novas were the Fred Gibb delivered L78/M40 cars..

As for Yenko Novas, it was totally different than the way his Camaro and Chevelle programs worked being the 427 Novas were dealer added engines to 1969 SS396 cars which aside from a few exceptions were Non-Copo cars but in 1970 the new Yenko Deuce cars had their factory LT1 SB's installed and included as a Copo..
The cool Canadian footnote and as some here are well aware, 2 of the 1970 Copo LT1 cars were shipped to Central Chev in London Ontario and sold w/ factory paint unlike the cars shipped to Yenko which all had the Deuce graphics added before being sold..
One of the Central Chev cars exists today, restored and owned by Peter Simpson!.

Back to the subject '68 Nova, WOW on being an original black L78 Canadian documented car but including the Copo reference where it doesn't belong just detracts from what's an already amazing car all on its own!.
