Need a mid 70's GM please help(yes it is for my derby addiction)

I know alot of you guys are not big fans of the sport but if anyone finds me a mid 70's full frame GM i will gladly buy the car and let you have any trim, or drive train parts you want it just needs to have a solid frame and floors. Monte carlos, Lemans, and cutlass, or big full size like lesaber etc are good cars I will make us all proud I will be running the car in Pairis Ont and I want to make it dedicated to CP. I promise to all of you if you help me run one open pro car I will never wreck a 70's car again I just want to live out a child hood dream. I would love to find a round back wagon but I dont think it will happen. The reason I want a Gm is because the Chryslers are ussualy rotted 70's fords are junk, and it not very often I get to use a GM because Crown vics are the best 80's and newer car to run, built ford tough with chevy stuff! Please help guys some one most know of a 4dr parts car or a car just not worth restoring.biggrin

Jeff there are far more positive and creative things you can do with your life than needlessly destroy a car from the mid 1970's from GM. How about destroying something useless and that NO ONE will miss, like a foreign piece of !@#$%^&* from any era that no one cares about and will never care about. Where is your head brother. Now go sit in the corner and repent your sins. If anyone here helps Jeff find a 70's GM car to destroy you to go sit in the corner and repent your sins. I am being as polite as i can be. Amen and Cheers. George.

The problem is I want to win. Its alot more involved then most people realize, for instence I run a 500hp SBC chevy, fresh turbo 400TH, 9" with richmond spool, and 5.14's, most ofr the time we use 1980-1999 crown victorias, or 80's caprice in the straight stock class, but we have a few open pro demolition derby's a well built car should last most of the season. I wouldnt derby a nice classic well maybe a chrysler imperial but they are not allowed. I feel it alot better then letting a car sit and rot atleast they go out with a fight. I had a 1970 Lincoln markIII but when we started to build it we found the frame was junk. I love gm cars but I also love to win I have never ran a 70's gm and just want to try it once I promise!lolbiggrin

Tiny, what did you put in the 350 besides the vortec heads to get appx 500 hp. Pistons cam etc. What machining was done to the heads and what valve springs are you using. I am just curious as I want to build a 350 with 9.8 pistons with the 64 cc vortec heads. I only want about 350 hp. What alternator setup did you use the serpentine vortec setup or the older style narrow belt. It is too bad you are so far as I have a 84 olds delta 884 dr sedan and full size caprice sitting in the back yard waiting for scrap steel to go up in price. I haven,t stripped them yet  as both cars run very good.    Thanks Al

I'm curious on your build up ,, I've collected basically the same parts , I realize there might be sensative trade secrets here,,,, but if your willing to share a bit of insight..

too bad I'm in Sask,, here is a car that would make a great donor,,shame as it may be ,, no one is interested in this ol girl anymore..

that is a perfect car!
The build is really simple, I use a gen1 4bolt main, .030 over, the cam is a crane I will need to look up the specs, the heads are the secret, you need to find 906 vortec heads found in the work horse like bus, 3500 dually etc, they have a different port design with the bigger valves, typical machine work required, I use a performer air gap intake and eldebrock carb, the bottom end was balanced, dome pistons, im not even shure what cc chamber the heads are but my machinest figures my compression ratio is 11.5:1, I had alot of good advice putting this motor together and I was really suprised with the result check out my youtube video's teamtinys is the chanel name and the car that motor is in is #1970 look at the most recent video of the skydome or flyn j skinner female warrier of wreckage you can just hear it scream over everyone else. Im going to build a new style SBC soon I have a 5.3L and they say with very little work you can get 435hp the biggest issue I have is keeping it cool the compression is the issue thats why I want to build the 5.3L im no expert just took alot of advice from some great guys.

also the skydome video is there sunday pro mod. I have never had the engine dyno test so the h/p is a estimate, I do know I had a .030 dart head, SBC and this motor would eat it for lunch.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4UzLToNxM7w

The 11.5 is the major difference in the engine you have and the engine I want to build. I have a set of 906 vortec heads with only 20,000 kilometers on them that I will use as is with no machining. I know I can pick up 40 hp by cleaning up the area beneath the exhaust valve and doing a 3 angle valve job with no work on the intake side. The 906 was used on most 350 truck engines with the other number on the 305 Vortec with smaller valves.
