Hi Poncho people, just a reminder if you have a Princess Auto Shelter, go and shovel the snow off the roof, if any is sitting on there. If you dont, the cheap piece of **** will fall down. I had one beside the house, with a 29 Ford ratrod and a 88 Vette in there, and down it came last night. How it didnt hit either one of the cars is beyond me. So if you can see snow accumulating on the roof, make sure you remove it. Cheers, Roger
I do the same thing with my awnings. Even though they are commercial grade Sunbrella material, I try not to let wet stuff build up. The wet snow weighs so much it is unbelievable!

I know this is off topic but you do have any pictures of the rat rod to post. I also have a '29. Was going to rod it at first but the engine still turned over. Found out not too many Fordor Leatherbacks left so decided to restore it. Somedays I wish I went the other way. Lots of work. Lots of wood. JC

I like! I see you went a different route than most. I mean with paint instead of rust look. Seems to be more and more Rat Rods showing up at the shows every year. Very cool! Glad to hear it wasn,t damaged. Mine kind of looks like a Rat Rod right now, except for the powertrain. Getting back on topic, I'd better tell my brother about the snow. He has his '51 Merc pickup under one of those tents. JC

too late for me im fixing one for a friend of mine hes been away since summer and just recently the shelter came down on his jag. so im gonna try to fix it for when he gets back
too late......mine came down this weekend. I am usually good with keeping it tight and clean, but got lazy once, and its toast. (78 Nova inside). I havent seen the damage inside yet.
L79 Acadian [Rodger} nice Rod BUT why have you got "HISTORIC" plates on it. We talked about this somewhere else. This is whats going to cause problems for the rest of us with cars that Qualify" for them. This car is certainly not the way it came from the factory as the MOT requires for the use of those plates!!! I saw one T -bucket get his plates removed last summer,for using those, maybe the rodders should "lobby" Queens Park for a plate for HOT RODS but right now the "RODDERS" are screwing the "LIGIT" plate users & themselves out of being on the road!!!!! Sorry for the RANT but this drives me nuts to see a HOT ROD with Historic plates as much as I love to see them & NO WAY will the 52 get those plates with the Mods. I'm doing to it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have a HD one to put up.. I was going to insert 3/8 plywood up at the top to help distribute the load... We have a lot of them up this way, and most I see are having the snow removed on a regular basis
I have a 6x8 one for parts and a riding lawnmower,it hasnt collapsed yet and i never clean it off,it was a can tire one pretty heavy duty.I would love to get a fullsize one to use as a spray booth in nice weather!
I just enquired about plates and the criteria is 30yrs old. The sticker for those plates is 18 bucks compared to 74. The problem with the historic plates is that when you get a customized one they nail you for the higher sticker rate,this is what i was told?.Got to love the MTO.
When I saw this post last night I was going to comment on the antique plates but decided to bite my tongue. They don't belong on this type of car regardless of the year on the registration.
As I said earlyer, the Roadside inspecters in Ontario have been hitting the modified cars with historic plates this past summer. They say the car can not be modified with a late model d/train & they it states when you apply car "must be original specs." Thats why I get upset, these guys are going to "RUIN' it for the cars that "REALLY" qualify for these plates!!! This & the MOE [ministry of enviroment] cracking down on emmissions on these cars, { wait,don't say it] the rules keep changing, last summer they said. if you have a later engine, you must have all the emm. equip. that came with that year engine, no matter what year car the engine is in??? Got this right from MOE as they took the plates off a vehicle just outside local cruise in. GM crate engine in mid 50's Chevy, "No Cats, no charcoal filter,no EGR. 671 blower, & Historic plates!!! Yes it's just a MONEY GRAB!!! $300+ for each pc. of equip. missing, that can add up FAST with 4 or 5 pcs. not there!!!! The Ont. Gov could decide to revoke these plates for "miss use" then we all SUFFER!!!!

Licence plates with the "historic" designation are available at Driver and Vehicle licensing offices and Service Ontario centres. To qualify, vehicles must be at least 30 years old and substantially unchanged or unmodified from the original manufacturer product.
Thinking of "my car" with Historical plate, it has a upgraded engine, but looks "substantially original"

Hes a big boy, and if he gets notice of his car being wrong, he will have to deal with it..
I would suggest that if it were "my car" I would have a personalized plate on it, and forget getting a Historical plate
We need to suggest and encourage each other...

In case anyone hasn't noticed, laws and rules are only for honest people. The dishonest folk will still march to the beat of their own drum and then whine the loudest when they get busted. Why mess with the rules in this situation? I foresee a huge towing bill and tickets which is much more of an expense than the regular plates. As well, you risk damage to your car from the tow company. Sounds like a pile of headaches that are not really needed. If you can't afford the correct plates, maybe you shouldn't have the car.
And for a side note on this subject: If you are ever pulled over and there is a chance of your vehicle being towed, be sure to stop in a private parking lot or a field. They cannot tow your car off private land. (at least not in Alberta). If questioned why you pulled off the road.... reply "for your safety sir!"
