I've got Big Block fever

I want to convert my '65 El Camino over from a 350 to a big block.  What would I have to do?

It has a 700r4 and a 12 bolt so I know those will work but will a big block like a 454 bolt in or what do I have to buy?

Thanks

Big Block fever, get it while you can!

Should just bolt right in. Distributor, motor mounts and starter from your small block can be used.
The extra weight of the BB may drop your front end a bit if that may be a problem

I keep thinking of other things and editting. Depending on valve covers on the big block and what booster you have may be a little tight.

Yeah there is something to be said for openng the hood and seeing the entire engine compartment stuffed full of rat motor.  It does make a statement alright!

You need all the correct mounting brackets and pulleys for accessories. Short water pump!!
Need to consider rad capacity to keep that BBC cool.
Consider the fuel line size. Probably should have 3/8.
Without the right front springs you might have trouble with front tires.
Correct oil pan.
Correct manifolds/headers.

According to rumour, some guy in Manitoba had a real bad case of BB fever in the 1980s. Thankfully he was cured.smile
