Hydro Bills I beat Todd again

Last year I think I was at $425.50 confuse

This year we staggered up to $ 559.07  with new HST added on   angered.gif

I took Rays advice and switched bulbs,  turned off heat to garage, turned off heat in upstairs living room, and turned down heat in Rec room...  We are wearing 2 sets of clothes and using blankets for coziness feelings   Turned down temp at water heater

We excitedly opened this bill, and with new 6.9% increase for "Hydro Delivery" and 10% off for voting them back in   $ 582.64buggered.gif

Fred wins! Congrats! Get this. My next door neighbor showed me his hydro bill for last month. $123 vs my $586. His house is bigger, just as old, AND has an occupied apartment. He heats with radiators (gas fired, electric pump). I heat primarily with natural gas. We do have 3 heaters that use infra red bulbs (1500watts each). I converted the AC blower motor in my furnace to an 80 watt DC motor. He has lights outside lights on all night- mine are motion sensitive. Both of us have gas dryers and electric stoves. He had two freezers and 3 fridges. I have one freezer and two fridges. My garage is heated with a gas radiant heater. The neighbors are retired and home all day. The TV is on all the time also.
I can't see how there can be such a huge difference. I'll call the hydro company but I doubt they'll do much of an investigation.

That is crazy!!! Our hydro bill is equalized at $60.00 per month, and we use about $400.00 or $500.00 worth of oil per year for heat. I do have a air tight wood stove in the livingroom, but have only used it a dozen times this year. I do have a smaller house I guess 1300 sq. feet plus full basement. Those bills are scary. Better come live in BC . Bye the way BC means BRING CASH!!! Oh well have to go now and get the grass cut.LOL

We're averaging about 350.00 per month for city service including electric, water and sewer charges..
I own the electric wtr. heater, 2 adults and 4 teenagers showering every day, some twice!.

Heat is a Natual Gas Boiler hooked to the original cast iron baseboards, average is now only about $75 per month!!!
Century home, brick balloon frame style, built in or before 1885 approx. 2500 total SqFt..

The key to heat savings and warmth here was new windows and 4 grand spent on insulation a few years ago including a million holes cut in the walls and the insulation blown in between all wall studs, pure air before or maybe a bit of horse hair at best?.

Best part is I caught the Federal/Provincial Eco-Energy Grant for the insulation, windows and some new toilets etc..
The result was a cheque for $5000.00!!!

I PUT IN NEW WINDOWS 2 YEARS AGO AND MY HEATING BILL WAS REDUCED BY ABOUT 40%. IT'S A LOT MORE COMFORTABLE IN THE WINTER AND THE THERMOSTAT IS SET LOWER NOW AS WELL, I ASSUME BECAUSE OF NO COLD DRAFTS COMING FROM THE OLD WINDOWS. MONEY WELL SPENT!

What was the saying uttered in the 70's by my favorite x-Alberta Premier - Peter Lougheed?  I'm too much of a gentleman to repeat it.

We spent about 5 grand on new Low-E windows when we moved here. I just spent about $575 having more insulation blown into the attic. The budget won't allow us to have the siding ripped down and insulation blown into the walls at the moment.

You know  confuse I really don't mind paying my fair share..

But when you see how our officials waste billions, it really makes me boil...

They have such a sense of Entitlement !!   $300,000.00 for suntan lotion?  Double dipping    Unbelievable   and what do we do ?   nothing

I have a rental house that I pay the gas on it is about 600 for the cold months. I think the tenants must leave the window open half the time.

I pay about $100-160 for hydro on average per month and last month paid $112 for nat. gas... I'm surprised to see how cheap the hydro is in BC in particular! I thought we had it good!!

What does every pay by volume??
In MB for electricity i pay $.0638 per kW/h (kilowatt/hour)
Gas has a few other charges for delivery, but we pay $.16 per M3, + transportation, + delivery charge ...so approximately 1/3 of my gas bill is my gas use, the rest is basic charge++

That's much less than I thought Todd. I was sure they told us at the solar power seminar last year that the rate was about .13 or .14/kwh.

Have your utility company compare your consumption with previous owners. If consumption is similar and your bill does not parallel the rate increasesconfuse then your meter may be defective. It can and does happen.
