Wanted to buy VIN and Cowl tags...

Came across this ad.  Is this legal?  I always thought it was illegal to remove, alter or otherwise mess with the VIN and Cowl tags.  I've never asked anyone who'd know for sure. so I could be wrong...

Why not.

he can ask whatever he wants
Hes better asking for a complete junker, and not mentioning what hes doing with the tags...

What do you think that every owner with a car getting a complete restoration, does with the tags?  Why do you think, there are new rivets on e-bay?

But is it actually illegal - which is what I've been told for years.

I don't really care that the guy is asking, I just want to know if the law prohibits it.

Anybody know?

I've seen this debate going around on a few sites over the last few years, and it is definitely illegal. Also when I was doing bodywork years ago, we all knew not to even think about it - at least in B.C. From what I've seen on a few sites, it may not be illegal to sell the tags, but it is to use them on a car.

I'm originally from BC, and it sounds like others there have heard the same thing - it's illegal. Though I have never heard of anyone being charged for it.

I can imagine legitimate cases where a guy might want tags. Unfortunately, I can think of a whole lot more reasons that are NOT legitimate.

I suspect it will become more common as provinces get tougher on the Total Loss titles after accidents...

Yep, start work early too! 3:00 on Fridays, 5:00 the rest of the week. (You know , the old loggin shop nite shift blues) Hey, if you're gonna be in Alice, stop by if you get a chance. I'm home till 4 most days - 2 on Fridays. If you come by on a week nite, stop in the old M&B shop and ask for Ken. I'm usually found in the pit under a Fat Truck, lol.
