Keisler RS 5 speed, no cutting!!!!!

After all the discussions I have noticed regarding the 5 or 6 spd conversion, the thing I have noticed is most of them require cutting the floor.  I saw this post elsewhere and thought some might like to see it.  It seems Keisler has designed a new 5 spd trans to fit the older cars without cutting the floor pans.

that's excellent news.  I imagine they'll have a 6 speed before we know it.

Sure makes the idea of the overdrive more appealing knowing you wouldn't have to cut the original floor!!

It's kinda funny they don't list a price, u have to call or email for a quote. My guess is 2500 bucks.

It won't go in a OEM correct car but my blue SD rag is a good one for the change.

This RS came out right after I bought my tremec, bummer. It still looks like it is a lot taller than a muncie. I  still think you would have to cut the tunnel a bit for the height of it and the offset shifter. Maybe, maybe not, for sure a lot less cutting anyway

From what I had read, guys were quoted between $2400 - $2900 depending on the trans. I believe that was a complete kit. Here is some Q&A another guy recieved about the trans to fit in his '70 A body car.

q: Are any modifications needed to bolt this unit up to my car?
a: None.

q: It looks like the output shaft is 31 spline with a yoke provided for my driveshaft, is this correct?
a: Actually, a full driveshaft is included in the kit since yours will be too long.

q: Do you install a specific speedo gear?
a: Yes, calibrated to your rear tire size and axle ratio.

q: I expect my car to be making in the range of 400-450 hp and tq at the flywheel. The car is street driven only, doing the occasional burnout and lots of power shifting. Ill rev limit at 5500 rpm.
a: No problem, RS shifts clean up to 7000 rpms.

q: Which RS transmission do you recommend and what is your pricing on each model? a: You didnt provide your axle ratio which is used to determine which model will function best.
RS500 $2595 3.37 1.99 1.33 1.00 .67 o/d ratios recommended for anything numerically lower than a 3.55
RS600 $2995 2.80 1.99 1.33 1.00 .67 o/d ratios recommended for anything numerically higher than a 3.55

Comment from Jeff:
All RS series units are remanufactured and based on the original Borg-Warner T45 design. Starting 1Q 2011 the tail housing will be a re-engineered brand new piece. We will be manufacturing the complete transmissions brand new later next year with a new main case as well. The T45 was designed 3 years after the T56 6 speed and shares all of the carbon fiber synchro technology.

q: What will the advantage of the new main case be?
a: The advantage of the new main case will be ease of installation. Currently we use an adapter plate with a captured bolt design that requires the bolts to be tightened with a wrench. The new case will allow the trans to be bolted up like a traditional Muncie.

If the price is OK that should be a nice transmission.
I put a Tremec 5 speed in a 62 Impala and I really like it. I had to modify the tunnel area quite a bit. It looks like this one would be a lot easier to install.

$ 1000.00  plus shipping....

The 5-6 speed looks good, especially when you are driving 20-30,000 miles per year!!   great gas savings!!
I go 300 miles a year with 2.73's

BUT I will buy your Auto gear M-20   Its the same as I have in Chief ....

Thanks for the offer C2. For that kind of money, I think I would save for the next 427 2+2 wagon I see.

When you post a link, hit the space bar after it. It should go live right away with the solid line under the link and turns pinkish/purple.

With your existing, place your cursor after the "L" in html and hit the space bar... Also, remove the "[ ]" in the first link then space bar. It will turn blue or pinkish/purple.

Edit your post and try it!!!
