This is a serious one! Someone in Lethbridge "snapped" last night at a photo-radar station box. The loser opened fire on the stationary speeding ticket camera box, blasting the ever loving bee-jeepers out of it. The bad news is a passing pick-up truck got pierced with shrapnel, injuring a 12 year old boy riding in the truck. It happened at about 6:30 PM on a very busy street. Seems the camera box was ran remotely by a Police officer in a van nearby. No arrests made yet.

The boy is OK. I guess the shrapnel hit a part of the frame in the cab first, just causing minor injuries to the 12 year old. They figure the shots were from a rifle. Damage to the machine.....$100,000.

I don't know what's happened to Lethbridge lately? Over the Christmas holidays, there was a report of "road rage" at a shopping centre parking lot. Seems two women were dicing for the same parking stall. The smaller, slightly pregnant women won. In rage, the slightly "rotund" woman got out of her car, dragged the pregnant woman out and proceeded to pound the crap out of her.....all over a parking stall. They found fighter, and charged her. But what the heck? The Police Chief in an interview said they had enough issues in that city, and didn't need to have situations like that arise.
I remember the Lethbridge where "nothing" happened. Maybe someone accidently dumped a pot of tea at the "Nikko Yukko Japanese Gardens" and that was enough to make the news.

Not much does happen here... You just hear the oddball random incedent. It's really a boaring and safe city. I dont lock my doors at night how many of you guys can still say that? lol. I lived in Vancouver for many years so this place is almost too quiet.
I remember as a little kid in Lethbridge, there was a siren on the roof of the # 1 Fire Hall. There was a cerfew and they blew the thing every 9:15 PM. They don't do that anymore! Maybe some of these cities should have a cerfew.

The BC photo radar was a joke. They regularly parked on a street near our place. My son and I used to slow down to 10K in a 50K just to make sure. Got some interesting looks from the operator. Of course everybody behind us slowed down too. They moved the van.
Too bad about the kid. I understand the frustration on the photo radar stuff.
In Coaldale they used to have the curfew too. The police used to stop kids and ask them where they lived and how come they were still out. It was a real quiet town, except for the cars.
Photo radar, spy cameras, air surveillance...all contravene the spirit of fair chase. If the state wants to peek in at us, they're gonna have to do better than these dumb assed gizmos....or else they could just dismantle them entirely and go back to sleep.
They could just track your cellphone, LoJack, GPS or OnStar and issue tickets based on that.
Won't long before someone somewhere starts it.
Wasn't it Hertz in the US that was charging renters for speeding based on with the GPS or OnStar? As I recall, their rationale was that photo radar tickets are issued to the owner so they were collecting in advance...
Good news the lad is Ok!. Photo Radar when here in Ontario was a licence to speed!!! Probably different in other provinces but here it was set up for fines only and no points so those that could afford to could speed all they wanted!.
