hey guys i have a problem, a big one.............
recently i traded my ranger for my parisienne but i got ripped big time, i thought he was somebody i could trust based upon some of his good friends that i am good friends with but anyways long story short he owes me the papers for the car and i have been patiently waiting for the last 3 weeks and im about to explode also i relized 2 days ago that there is no serial number on the car, sound fishy?
im wondering what YOU think i should do about this, run to the police and get my truck back? or sell the car and make a little dough and wait till i find another one?
atleast i have a bill of sale, anyways please give me some input on this
Thanks guys

It should be on the door jamb in front of the driver's door.

So what's on your bill of sale, is there not a serial number or just a description of the car?
To get anything in trade for a 94 Ford Ranger is a bonus so no big problem...biggrin

whats on the bill of sale is a description of the car and what the deal was, he wrote a spot for the VIN# but didn't put it down because we weren't near the car when he wrote it and he said he didn't know it off the top of his head
i might just keep it and hope to someday have another 67' so i have a good parts car but that is not likely, im thinking of just parting it out or selling it as a parts car if i get nowheres with my so called "buddy"

good trade? 1994 ranger rusted out for a 67 grande parisienne custom sport with no rust?

No rust, huh? No freaking serial number, either. Seems like a call to the local gendarmes might be in order.

Some people's kids. no

Just wondering as to when Pontiacs started stamping the partial vin number on the engine block front pad. If its the original engine , maybe thats a place to look.

You have only mentioned the tag on the dash. Have you opened the driver's door and looked on the front pillar where the switch is for the dome lamps? Right between the upper and lower hinge on the pillar is where the tag will be, or the holes where it was.

How did he have it registered?

Did buddy have insurance on the car. ever. if not you are gonna have to hound him till the truth comes out.NEVER trade vehicles unless both papers are present.I think that cool hood alone is cooler than a ranger!

Now this is the issue. If you don't have a vin attached to your transfer you don't own that car. If you transfered your clear title truck to him he owns it. Call the cops and cut your loses or call him and tell him what you are going to do if he doesn't give your truck back. You don't have a leg to stand on but if that car isn't reported stolen you can part it out. You are 100% liable if you part out, trade, or buy a stolen car.

well you could do something completely illegal and pull a Vin and cowl tag from a wreaking yard lol (not recommended)

Yes, we sure would not want to condone any illegal activity at this site.

There is no way Dudemanbro would ever pull the tags off a rusted out hulk of a car to attach them to a rust free beauty parked in his yard. Nope. Not gonna happen.

I do love that hood. The front of that car gives me shivers.

Is the Cowl tag and Vin tag both missing or just one?.
If Vin tag you can check the hidden Vins to confirm the true serial # of the vehicle..
Whatever's going on, don't swap tags from a different car!.

Tough to tell how upside-down you are on the deal as even tagless it may be a good swap for the Ranger?.
Get ahold of the seller and tell him to make things good or you're calling the cops!.
Making good can include cash/parts coming your way if the tag doesn't exist..

Good luck!.

I feel your pain, I had a similar situation. I'd NEVER call the police again over an issue like this, but I may threaten to call the police to the seller. They'd likely show up, laugh at the predicament I'm in, tow the car away ay my expense, and fine me for some unrelated thing they didnt like.  Its a tough pill to swallow, but some times the best you can do is hope karma takes care of it. Everyone handles situations differently, at least you may have educated some readers here of the importance of crossing the t's and dotting the i's when buying/selling/trading vehicles. (the previous owner may have had the exact same thing done to him with this car and decided to just get rid of it the same way) If its any consolation, I like your car.

Yes, but you can't see the VIN on this car from outside the car. You have to open the door and look on the pillar. Have you checked there?

THIS IS A '64 BUT THE VIN TAG LOCATION SHOULD BE IN THE SAME SPOT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE. JUST OPEN THE DOOR AND HAVE A LOOK.
