1969 Chevrolet 2 door Hard top

main-Header-1024-01.jpg

Up for auction is this extremely clean 1969 Chevy Impala SS 427 with 75k undocumented miles. It's in great condition retaining what appears to be its original body panels, interior and even the trunk paint! The powertrain consists of a date correct 427 cid/335 HP engine, a date correct M21 transmission (replacing the original TH400) and a 12 bolt 3.73 posi. As you know, the only way to authenticate a 1969 Impala SS is with the build sheet, protect-o-plate or original window sticker. We have the original protect-o-plate and broadcast sheet. However we have been unable to decode the broadcast sheet. See following decoding information: "Chevrolet by the Numbers" by Alan Colvin and www.impalass427.com.

What a great looking car.

I especially like the bench seat and four speed combination.

'69 Impala Sport Coupes rock. My favourite '69 full sized body style.

The "Buy It Now" price seems pretty in line, even on the cheap side.

If I win the lottery this week, I'm all over it!

I'm no expert on the 69 Impala SS, but it was available only with the 427 engine. I had always understood that only the 390 hp (L36) or 425 hp (L72) versions were available as part of the Z24 SS427 option; and the he LS1 335 HP version was not. Having said that though, I did see a Canadian built 69 SS 427 convt in Barrie in 1995 that had the 335 badged engine in it. But I did not check the alpha code on the block or the firewall tag.

same here john, the LS1 335hp 427 was not offered with the SS427 in '69.
the LI suffix code on the POP decodes as a 390hp T400

The POP does prove that this car is a legit SS427 , and the current powertrain is a drop in from a regular 335 hp Impala.

The seller is upfront and informs everyone that the engine is a LE low hp 427, and the 4 spd is a converison.

I feel the only reason it has not sold yet is due to the fact of this lower hp replacement engine, and the 4 spd conversion ( which is not a cheap conversion). These 4 spd conversions done right can easily cost $3-5 K , as all the 4spd parts are extremely rare and expensive.
Considering the great shape this car is really in , it may be worthwhile to upgrade the heads, cam etc to 390 hp specs, pull the trans & 4 spd parts and go back to a T400 . The 4 spd parts would even finance the conversion.

Then this car would be a bit more original. I've talked to this this seller for over a year now, and helped him decode this car. I even considered grabbing it at one time , but decided to complete my similar project.

I too feel it is well priced. You could not build it for that today.

You guys pretty well confirmed what I was thinking. The prices for '69 SS427's with all the original bits and pieces are at least $10,000 more than the buy it now listing of $21,000 USD.

Having said that, what a great car just to get in and drive. 4 speed, bench, rosewood wheel, let the good times roll!

If it was mine I would ditch those 8" Corvette Rallyes, slap on a set of American Racing mags like the ones on my Stude, and go and have some fun.

Only one hour left in the auction and only one bid - what do you think is going on here.

Is the low buy it now price scaring people away?  confuse

20K has got to be as good of a price for any bb4spd car in this nice of condition.
It's exactly as said.."just try to build one for this price", if the pictures tell the truth, paint that nice would have to set you back, what?, 6-7 grand min? And a complete #s car will be at least 10-20k more than this one.
Sure, it'll never go through the roof like the genuine stuff will, but seeing this really makes me ponder selling all my junk to move up to a big gun. And this one really looks nice in that shade of blue. Man o man!

reasonable price for an SS427 in this condition, even though it's not totally original.

Just to review....   It looks like the car is a real 427-390 auto?   not a SS   and engine changed to 335 and 4 speed   right?

The stated suffix code for this car is " LI " , which is for the "SS" 427/390 T400.
So if the POP is legit with the correct vin # , then that should be enough proof that this car was "born"  as an SS 427/390 , and one of 2,455 built.

If it had the suffix code LC , then that would be for a regular Impala 427/390 T400
