He was listening to that Neil Young song:

"It's gonna take a Lada love......."

Good luck finding a non rusty one.

He should look on the Lada forum:

these were actually no worse than any hyundai of the era

High maintenance schedule required according to the owner s manuel

Rusty rocker panels

Its actually a Fiat. Plans were sold to the Russians

Car gets a worse rap due to it being an eastern block built unit

Still a sh*t box no where near our domestic built quality

Europeans would argue how tough they were

lada,s are in the top 5 cars for worst ever built. the russians didnt even like them. didnt even think we had hyundais till 84. lada,s were on thier way out by that time. i think 85-86 here in north america were the last years for those

Lada 1500 and 1500S showed up at Halifax in 1978. Left leaning Canadians flocked to then because they were cheaper, later Niva (SUV) showed up. Signet showed up in 1984 upscale to the 1500 S and was sold here through 1989. Nivas were sold here well into the 1990s

European of the 60s 70s and 80s put their names on waiting lists for these wait could be 5 to 15 years ! Other options were Trabant and Skoda (presently quite successful in Europe)

Yup shoulda dumped them in the ocean on the way over just like the rest of them imports

i remember seeing a european version of road and track a long time ago. they were testing out a lada niva 4x4 in a flat field with a little bit of mud. it caught fire on them, and they were,nt able to put it out!. it was funny as heck to see. when ever i saw one of those after that, thats the first thing i thought of.

1978 $3495
1979 $3995

Things really haven t changed much over the years back then you could buy a 5 6 or 7 year old pontiac for 1/2 the price of a cheap import and if maintained it would just as long or longer in comfort. Same is true today. Buy domestic buy quality

alot has changed since then. they are now getting 400+kms easily the old school math you just provided is just that. use the same equations now adays, and the math doesnt work out in favour of the domestics

Not true math is correct

A sh#tbox say Kia Rio is priced at what ? 10-15 g s ? You buy a 05/06 impala or pontiac GP for 5-7 (1/2) and it ll last just as long in comfort

I have to agree that the LADA was 1 "POS" I worked at a Lada dealership in Oshawa in the mid 80" think thats when I lost my hair!!!  Rocker arms "broke" quite often, their electrical was worse than the english Lucas [ now thats BAD] & they did catch on fire. I found out the reason why & notified head office & was told to "shut Up" Couldn't live with the thought of someone burning up in this vehicle, so I went further & was "Immediatley" FIRED!!! They did me a favour!!! As for todays imports being JUNK not so, & there are a lot of Canadians working for them in head offices & dealers. Some of them are built in the States, or here in Canada,so you really can't call them imports. Wev'e had Nissans[ no problems] & my wife has a Vibe whch is a Toyota in diguise & no problems with that either. My oldest step son's mother in law has a Hyundia Elantra & 4 yrs. of trouble free driving & stepson has a Kia Van same thing. They looked at Chrysler van but was out of the picture "price wise" & Kia 's warr. blew the Chryco out of the picture. I have to take my 2010 Suburban back to the dealer already as the namplates frt. & back are already "discoloured" & rusting??? $ 50.000 vehicle, & this happens already!!!disbeliefdisbeliefdisbeliefdisbelief
