(my translation--very good condition, presently the vehicle doesnt work, the car cames from the states 8 years ago. It has been stored indoors since. Needs inspection but has no rot, very solid, all numbers match, very good project, bucket seats, 396. Presently stored, call for info 514 602 2076. (either the car is manual or his name is Manuel)

Went to high school in one every day, my buddy's family car. That 394 could hardly move the beast, just like a 396 Caprice ....Couldn't break through a wet Kleenex.

You think the Caprice 396 was underpowered?

I thought my 4 speed GP was sufficient as a 396 car. Just the 427 was more funbiggrin

Ray, hate to dissagree but my dad had a 63 Starfire & there was hardly a car in the east end that could beat it!!!  Ran a 409 powered 51 Merc at harvey's at Warden & Danforth & clean his clock, also did in a 64 Chevy Biscayne 2 dr post with 327 4spd. & a 65 Chevelle 220 hp 4spd. Met that owner yrs. later he only lives a couple of miles from me & he still can't get over getting beat.

I don't know about the 394 Olds but the 396 Caprice has no issues with get up and go - even in 2 bbl form.

i owned a 64 394 starfire for about a year,had around 80k miles on it,Had the reverse in the basement trans with a real low 1st gear and 394.That big ol car FLEW OUT OF THE HOLE MAN IT PULLED HARD,would had been alot better with a t400 trans instead of that hydroglidemabobb.Impala way better lookin...thay manuel part is FUNNY

Here is a road test of the 394 Olds Starfire 345 HP, it shows 0-60 in 9.7 and 1/4 mile at 17.3 and and a neckbraking 79 mph. 


A 4 cylinder Toyota Camry does 0 - 60  in 8.1 seconds.

mine had a dodge thermoquad on it! when i put the stock rochester on it it ran nicer but no power. made a big diff

what's the 1/4 mile time on that Corolla ? Those little cars were always zippy

17.3 sounds OK for that Olds I sure wasn't expecting to hear 15s

AllI can find is 0-60 in 10 seconds for a 1.8 litre Corolla, almost as fast as the Starfire.

my son has a 68 caprice and its a 396 325 hp it was good for a couple hundred feet of rubber and it was a loose old smoker,but it was a 4 barrel

Yes ray, it was a 394cu in 345 Hp had 3:42 rear axle ratio. The only way to "launch" when drag racing was to stand on the brake, take it up to 3000 RPM, release the brake & let the tires roll about one revolution then "nail it" otherwise you'd just burn the back tires off of it!!!! Never got a hole shot, but usually past the other car when I hit 2nd. in the "slim jim" hydromatic. When cleaning out my Mum's garage after she had passed away, I found the "Blue Plate Special" a flat piece of fibreglass that I had, removed the top of air filter, & put the blue plate on, made filter "unrestrickted" man I can still hear that sound when the back barrels were "wide open" Dad asked what the "hissing noise was one day, I had forgotten to re move the "blue Plate" I said I'd go out & check it out, made the swap back before he came in garage!!!

I guess a 9.7 second 0-60 sports sedan was relatively fast in 1963. Those other cars you beat were probably 11 second 0-60 machines.

Wow...I had the 6 cylinder 67' Camaro at the track and it ran 17.3 with a sloooooooooow 2.3 60 foot time.
