Looking for a headlight switch for my 68 Grand Parisienne. It has hideaway headlights, so the switch has to have the vaccum ports on it. Anyone know where to get one?
Thanks, ken

1968 Reproduction Headlamp Switch - If the retractable headlamp on your 1968 Caprice or Impala have ceased to function, then it is a good probability that the dash mounted vacuum headlamp switch may require replacing. This switch is a quality reproduction which will install and function as original. This replacement switch will differ cosmetically in appearance from the original. It will however, allow correct operation of the headlamps. Part # 1995191 $35.95 each.
You can likely order it through "The Muscle Car Shop" in Calgary.

Went to the Muscle Car shop today, talked to Brian. The part for the caprice, looks to be the same as the one for the camaro. He had the Camaro one in stock, but it only has 2 vaccum ports and the parisienne has 3. They ordered one for me, but thinks when it comes in it will be the same(2 ports) May have to tee the two headlight pots into 1 and make the camaro one work.

Ken, the 3 ports are for; vacuum, doors up and doors down. There is vacuum applied to keep the doors closed.
The Camaro must automatically close?

I suspect the Camaro and Caprice part #'s at Classic Industries may be different. Maybe check their website for the Camaro part #, Caprice part # is 1995191.
In the meantime, Ken, what's wrong with yours?? Is it the switch or a source vacuum issue? The switch in my 4-dr Grande piled in the late '80's early '90's..... I disassembled it and found the tab that is operated mechanically by the switch to open and close the ports had broken off.
What I did was welded it, lubed up the slide and reassembled. Worked up to the last time I used the car....... Do an open heart on it to see what ailes it.............

The switch was replaced with one out of a parisienne without the hideaways. and I have the second part which operates the hideaways. So it works, but I have the 2 separate pieces hanging under the dash
Sorry the pics are bad, my flash wouldn't work...

good luck with that one Ken.
So I pick up the switch....Looks good. I plug it all in after work, start the car, and all I can hear is hissing from the switch. Vacumn leak... Little PI**ED now, gonna call them tomorro.
Oh Yeah, the switch is for a 68-69 GTO

put a little "Juicy Fruit" or "Double Bubble" on the leak, that'll seal it up.

Its not the hoses, the old half that was in the car worked fine, no leaks. I think it maybe just a cheap re-po switch. the tabs that hold the vacumn ports don't seem very tight. I'll see if I can get a good pic of it.

Heres a couple of the new switch ( pointing to where it leaks) and the old switch. The tabs that are bent over don't seem tight. Don't know if I should try to tighten them, or take it back...

Being in the parts business, I know that if someone returns a defective part to me that has been tampered with, I have very little success returning it to my supplier in that state.
