One year only engine in 1969 superceded by 455. These 430's made about 500 ft-lb of torque.

Again I learn something. I thought those were around for 3 or 4 years prior to the 455 intro.

I think they were around for a few years, they were Buick's version of the Chevy 427 or the Pontiac 428.  A friends father has one in his 69 Wildcat that he's trying to sell, so when doing research on prior years they also had 430's.   Buick punched it out to 455 in 70.

My Riviera had one. You could squeel the tires easily.

Buick had the 401 & 425 Nailvalve V8s since 1961 & 1964 I think. The Nailvalves were dropped & replaced with a freer breathing pair, the 400 & 430 for 1967. They ran through 1969 then were replaced by the 455 in 1970. The small Buick V8s are something else again. Stemming from the Buick aluminum 215, there was a cast iron 300 64-67, 2 or 4 barrel 340 66-67, 350 68-79 (or 80 or beyond). The V6s were developed from the 215 aluminum V8 originally. They were 198 62-63, 225 64-67, then adapted for Buick 350 pistons in 75 making it a 231.
