Just heard on local radio that prices will be $1.32 reg. by morning. I've been driving a mint 99 Lincoln Connie with a 32V 4.6 V8 all winter, great car but my 110+klms. commute 4 days a week put the pitchfork in that. Sold it because of that last week.
Got my 06 Charger Hemi out that uses mid grade 89 octane. Driving it for a week and thats it. Time for a econobox.
Spending $150 a week on fuel is out of my zone. ( Not including boat in the summer)
Found a nice little 06 Nissan........ I know, I know. I can't believe I said that, but it's true.
It's almost to the point that if I bought a new VW Jetta TDI diesel and stored the Charger that the payment on the Jetta and the fuel bill savings would be equalled out.
I have always preferred big American Iron all my life. Been driving for 40 yrs. It's just outta hand spending that much on gas. Even in the USA it has finally hit home to a lot of people and they are driving less. The Interstate highways are less congested on the weekends now for sure. The 401 corridor is always still full though!
I've been thrashing this about too.... my daily winter driver is a 93 grand caravan with an oil pressure problem. I've been toying with the idea of ditching it for a 4 banger stick shift to economize .... but I'm finally going for an engine swap and keeping it. better the devil you know....

I hear you - I can't believe I hear you but I do hear you. I moved a few km out of the city last year. My wife drives the kids to and from school each day - that's six trips a day then I go back and forth to work with the truck so I think I'm keeping the 04 GP and I put her in a rendezvous we'll try V-6's for a while
Getting ready for the economy to stall once again. I realize there were many factors at play, but it seemed once gas hit in the 30's back in '09, it seemed to trigger a slowdown. Sad, but perhaps this time we'll finally start to and maintain some sort of conservation... maybe, but till it gets so bad that I have to choose between beer or gas, I'm heading out today to fill up the 67 with some 94.

You don't need a 4 banger for mileage..... My '02 Supercharged 40th G/P will get 35-38mpg all day long on the highway at @110kms. Plus you have ride and space.
As for premium, I never use it in this car or anything else I drive. What the heck for? The 327 4bbl in my Laurentian will get bottom line fuel as well........
I have 2 friends that drive @150 kms to work a day, on with a Cavalier with a 2.2 and an '02 G/P Coupe with a non-s/charged 3.8 and they get relatively the same mileage.
I would rather have some metal around me than to try and save a few bucks on gas...... That being said, I do live on the Prairies and luckily I only have to walk 100 feet to work. I save lots on fuel there.......... I just won't give up being safe on the road for a few bucks...

I have to run the "good stuff" in the Catalina, as it's 10 3/4 to 1 comp. ratio. This could "curtail alot of cruise ins ' this summer. Just heard on news NOW it's going to $1:34 ltr to night !!! Lovely,Just FU^%$ING" lovely!!!!!!!!!!!

If I had a big commute each day. I would consider a cheaper vehicle.
I dont so Ill enjoy my 4000lbs safety mobile....ask Tiny...what happened when he got T boned in his Caprice Wagon....not a scratch on anyone. They all waked away.
smaller engine doesn't always = better MPG my Escalade with a 6.2 gets better mpg than my 1/2 ton with a 4.8, my sister's 4runner with a v-6 is worse than both of my trucks!!
I forgot how bad the 1980 vehicles were on fuel (I've had a couple over the years) until I refueled that 1980 Parisienne I bought a couple of weeks ago. Twice now.........$98.00 each time, yikes! Terrible mileage with it.

my 80 Parisenne got about 26 mpg but it had a 267 in it. Couldn`t get out of its own way under powered

Ain't that the truth. My 02 GMC Sierra has 5.3L and gets about 28 mpg, if I drive easy.
The neighbour has a V6 Tundra and gets 19 mpg. He can't believe it so I had to show him.
I only fill up once every 3 weeks. But that big tank is getting expensive. I can remember when I filled up my 66 Beaumont for $5 in 1970. Now thats the price of a bag of chips and a pop.

small econobox 5litrs per hundred at 150 , thats about 55mpg for us from the past,if the snow stopped and i can work on it.im still trying to figure out how to squeeze more out of our vibe and solstice computures are so inflexible
In the early '90s we had a '90 Turbo Sprint. In the winter it was 52-53 mpg and in the summer mid 50s. Wish I had it now. We put over 300K kilometers on that car and it was rock solid reliable. Lots of power but lacked in the handling department.
