Here's a good one: Went to a local GM dealer and asked for a speedo gear for a 700R4. The parts guy responded, "what's a 700R4?" Right away I knew there was no hope here, so wondered if anyone here may have one, or know where to get a one, part #1362049 42 tooth?
are the 700R4 speedo gear like the turbo 400's? If so, I have a bunch of turbo 400 gears of varying teeth (and corresponding colors), and the housings for them.

I checked, while I have various gears for a turbo 400, the holders are all the same, part # 1362076 on them. (I also checked your 1362049 part #, same as turbo 400) The gears are all in the 35-39 teeth range, and the housings have 36 37 38 39 on them. I think they're only good up to 39 teeth gears, but you're welcome to try if you want.
If there is a Trans rebuilder close go there, they should have what you need. I worked at one and we had a 5 gallon pail full of them. We took them off all the cores and then in the pail so to speak.
Try the place on 53rd Avenue SE, between 3rd & 4th streets, on the north side of the street. It's set back from the road, and I think it's called Brian's or Barry's Transmissions. He should be able to help you out. (basically a couple blocks north of the NAPA warehouse)

I drove by on the way home, try Larry's Transmissions on 53rd Avenue SE between 3rd & 4th Street.
Thanks for the leads and I called Larry's and some others with no luck. That particular housing is impossible to find although I did find it on that 'bowtie' site as well as others.
After pondering this, it occurred to me to change the drive gear instead....duh, and then it will work with the existing housing. I have arranged to do this and subsequently have the proper driven gear calibrated with a GPS. Should solve the problem now.

re calibrating, keep in mind the grid road system in Alberta. For North/South, there was a road allowance every 2 miles. For East/West, there was a road allowance every mile. The road allowances are part of the mile, so you can calibrate the speedo that way as well. Hiway 2A North from Okotoks to the overpass is on one of the North/South roads. If you want a nice long straightaway, try Highway 2 from just north of High River to past Cayley.
