Volt Guage

Ocassionally (twice) my guage wants to run over at full position

Everything on car works fine..  battery is new... alternator is new..

Could the regultor be getting old? (like me)  or the guage not grounding?

First thing I would test with a volt meter to see what it's actually charging.

RE: Volt Guage

Has it ever been replace or is it still the Delco Remy unit?

Those old ones are not usually intermittent. The new ones have a smooth cover (no name), look the same but have electronic guts. I am not sure if they can do the intermittent thing.

I am not sure which it is..  I never replaced it..   It spiked the guage last year when I drove to  Chris's house for BBQ...then was good for rest of season..     I will check it out...   probably time for a bigger motor anyway wink

Is it a Volt meter or Amp ??? Original dash guage was Amp. I think?? or is this an after mrkt. guage??/ Beat to check it with V meter at Batt. as said & see what the charge is.

Carl, Is your car still running the external Regulator? If so I have a couple here you could try, one is brand new with maybe 100 miles on it. They came from the GTO as I was having charging problems, so I switched to a newer style internal Alt. After the replacement I think it could have just been all the splicing and lousy connections that caused my problem! Let me know if you need them, I think I may even have a near new Ext. Reg. Alternator from the same car.

Carl, don't know if Cdn. Pontiac is the same system as US but the cars with amp guage use a different V/reg than the other GM family w/o the guage Mine went "wonky" a few yrs ago & have had no problems since replacing it!! I can't remember what the symtoms were when it crapped out!![ getting old]
