Looks like I am heading to Thunderbay to pick up a car and drop one off on the way. My 08 Pick up has only 273 km on it. Just wanted to know if these engines need some miles on them before you put them to work.
I think you'll be ok, might even help with the break in as long as you don't over do it. How much weight ???? When i did my 389 in 64 I drove it about 3 miles at 50mph stopped & checked for leaks etc. Then pulled a 6 grand [test run ] in 1st & 2nd. gear. Been hammering it ever since when ever I can & it's been good from the get go, no oil consumption to speak of [1/2 litre on 650 mi trip]

Working an engine hard when new is the best way to break it in. It is no different than breaking in an engine on a dyno. Make sure everything is up to operating temperature before working the engine hard but other than that you are doing the engine a favor. I'd change oil after 500-1000km because any new parts that had a sharp edge likely won't anymore, thus the oil and filter will have caught the contaminants. Have a safe trip!
Make sure you drop the oil at 1000 km. Maybe when you reach T-Bay.

The truck is 3 years old but no k. GM still wanted it in for oil changes so its had a few already. The dealer ship is only a mile from me. Thanx for all the replys. I feel safe now that I wouldn`t hurt it.
