1968 Grande Parisienne - On the road again.....

to stay......finally 23 years later. I bought this car in about 1988. It had 56,000 original miles on it. All these years later, it still only has 59,000 miles........I guess you could say I didn't drive it much. I probably racked up most of those miles moving it from storage to storage, lol.........biggrin

Thanks for the comments guys. It's got a strong, healthy 396 in it. A few options......tilt wheel, rear window fan, rear radio speakers, console, 2 speed auto (-behind a 396-??, like who built that, someone on the assembly line that had too many beers at lunch?). Would have been nice to have another outside mirror (like on the passenger's side, lol), and power windows would have been nice. But all in all, I love it, it's got really interesting personal history and I got it from the original owners. I don't think that there are too many of them around, for some reason I seem to think that the original total numbers built were around 1296 or something like that. I don't know how they break down as to motor and options, but 1296 might have been the total Grande Parisienne's for 68. Does anyone have any ideas as to production numbers? Thanks.........Doug.
P.S. Hey Brad.......while it was sitting around waiting for me to fix it up and get it looking good, some of my daily drivers over that time included, but not limited to........ 1965 Malibu SS, 1968 Buick GS 400 conv't, 1965 Gran Sport 401-4-speed, 1974 Corvette, 1987 Camaro, 1989 TransAm, and roughly another 125 or so not as interesting cars, trucks and vans. So it kinda took a backseat at the time......but now it's time to shine!! (and show)

They worked out good, the auto detailer managed to clean them up pretty good for me. I'm glad to have them. Thanks for all your help with them and especially all your trouble getting them shipped..........Doug.

Thanks to everyone for all the great comments. It sure makes me feel good after all these years (23) to be back on the road again with this car. It is my intention to get it looking even a bit better in the next month or so and then head over to the senior's residence where the original owner now resides. I know that he will be thrilled to see it and go for a ride with me. It's something that I have waited years and years to do. He has only seen it one other time since I bought it from him in 1988. Chances are he doesn't even think that I still own it. However, when I bought it from him, I told him that I wanted to have it, to keep it...........and I have kept my word.............thanks again everyone...........Doug.

That is a very cool gesture you taking the old guy for a ride in his old car. Looking as good as it does now he'll start reminissing the good ol days when he owned it. You will learn a lot of history of the car. Cool!

Hi Mike, thanks for the post. I'm checking through one of my old issues of Canadian Classics for the info on the 68. It's in the very first issue Sept. 1999. According to it, you are correct at 1312 (only 30 came with the 427)......that's all the pertinent? (is that the right speeling, lol) info that I can find in the magazine...........ttys..........Doug.

GREAT THAT YOU CONFIRMED THAT NUMBER, hmmI FORGOT TO CHECK LAST NIGHT! THAT CAR IN THE SEPT.1999 ISSUE IS MY CAR. I HAVE THE GM PAPERWORK FROM THE EDITOR OF THAT MAGAZINE WHEN HE RESEARCHED IT FOR THE ARTICLE. I ALSO HAD THE PAPERWORK RE-DONE WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR A COUPLE YEARS AGO. BOTH OLD AND NEWER PAPERWORK HAD THE SAME INFO. AND NUMBERS.
