Second owners of Grandfathers Pontiac.

As found by me in late 1990's.

Grandfather with his new 60 Pontiac, which he had for 3 years. I found it and restored it. It is one of the ones in the previous photos posted.

My Grandparents and their fleet, around 1958. Including a Lanchester on the left of the Dodge, and two Austins. The right hand one being a ute. The Grandfather must have had a bit of money, note the Dodge and Austin number plates.

Thought you guys might be interested in this pamphlet with the original price and dealership on front cover.

My 50 Chev that I've had for almost 30 years.

Kids with the 68 Pontiac that I got back on the road and used for a around a year before selling. Ideal car for holidays with the kids.

Great photos and story. Thanks for sharing. What's the price of fuel in NZ?

I like the fact that the same license plate was still on it later on when it was looking sad!!!! That's a treasure find right there, the car is a bonus......

I was in New Zealand a month ago and gas was $2.21 a liter. I believe that a license plate issued to a car when first licensed in New Zealand stay's with the car when it's sold. Car's go through an inspection every six month's. At least this is what I was told when i was there. While I was there we had to take my god-daughter's parent's Honda through inspection. You don't see to much junk on the road's!

Regular grade petrol has dropped to $2.00 per ltr. Diesel is around $1.46. the licence plate does stay with the car here unless its a personalised plate as on my 50 chev in which case you can retain the plate if the car is sold and sell the plate seperately. These plates can cost anywhere from $500.00 to $20,000.00. We have a Warrant of Fitness test every 6 months for cars and a Certificate of Fitness every 6 months for commercial vehicles which is a bit harder to pass. Yearly registration for a car costs$287.00 but if the car is over 40 years old it drops to $112.00. which is good when you have a few classic pontiacs in the shed.biggrin

The 'Austin' is a Morris Oxford Series IV I think...assembled by BMC. Is that Dodge a Plodge Kingsway?
'68 was the last year for assembled Chevs and Pontiacs by GM NZ Ltd in Upper Hutt...I was once sent by GM the '68 delivery listing and was amazed at how many cars were sold well into 1969.

Where in New Zealand do you live? I've been over the last two year's, what a beautiful country! The people are so friendly, the food and wine are awesome. I spent my two trip's on the north island, Whangarei to be exact. Did the Skytower jump the first trip. Auckland is a beautiful city as well.
