Muscle car? NOT!

It's a "grocery getter".

I think there is a typo there.
(should read 350 CI not HP)

I have been laughing so hard that i have actually hurt myself laughing. Hurting myself laughing was a good thing because i have been due for a REAL GOOD LAUGH lately. I got it here. Yes a 350 cu. in. Not 350 h.p. Yes $1.500, Not $15.000. Yes a grocery getter, Not a muscle car. There is no way this person is serious. It is someone with a very warped sense of what is funny. Cheers. George.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't believe that a Musclecar can HAVE more than 2 doors? (doesn't matter WHAT's under the hood)

It depends on your definetion of muscle car. There seems to be many different ideas of what defines a muscle car these days. There were four door model that were ordered and built with factory big blocks and four speeds. For example 409's and four speeds were instaled in those years of Chevrolets of the four door variety. There were 396 and 427 big blocks with four speeds as well as automatics installed in full size Chevrolets and possibly some of our Canadian Pontiacs. Last summer i saw and took photos of an original unrestored in any way, 1966 Canadian Pontiac Laurentian four door sedan with its original 396 big block. I would look at that 66 Pontiac as being more of a muscle car than say a two door hardtop with a small block that is of garden variety, if you know what i mean. There were 1957 Chevrolet 283 v-8's installed at the factory with FUEL INJECTION in four door sedans. Cheers. George.

I just want to add that it should be the motor and drive train that makes a muscle car, not how many doors a car has! George.

The 1964 GTO is commonly referred to as the original Muscle Car.  This being a Pontiac site I am sure we will have little argument on this.

Using the GTO as the prototype the basics of a muscle car are:

1. Intermediate body style

2. 2 doors

3. Large displacement engine in excess of 380 cubic inches

4. Multiple or 4 bbl carburetion

5. Performance dual exhaust system

6. 3 speed HD manual shift transmission (upgrades are acceptable, 4 speed and auto)

7. Upgraded sized wheels and tires

.

Sometimes a car like this remains in a family because they believe it is a treasure, and finally it gets in the younger generations hands and they want to cash in on old uncle Joes valuable muscle car. Why wouldnt someone believe their uncle or father about its value? It sucks when reality sets in. Given that this one is so far from its value (imo) I suspect the seller was misled by someone! It'll probably be passed on to the next victim.

Yes I do. In fact the original road test of a 1964 GTO in Motor Trend is the most famous one that Jim Wangers set up. He had two cars taken to Florida. One was set up for handling and had the stock engine touched by Royal. The other car had a full blown NASCAR 421 dropped in.

Amazing that somone with zero intergrity has become a Pontiac legend.

Zero integrity????   Isn't that a bit harsh?

I like to poke fun at the old guy myself, but regardless of what anybody says,he really did help to make the GTO the success it became & 50 some years later,he's STILL workin it.

MY hat is OFF to him for staying on the program for so long. (I believe he's in his mid 80's)

I'd say he has ALOT more integrity than all those road tests that you like to quote.

At least he understands those cars & has the ability to drive them to their full potential.

I don't what else you can call someone who deceives and lies then laughs about it. In many professions individuals who display these behavious are severely disciplined and even subject to being suspended and having their licenses revoked. It is solely because of Mr. Wangner's behavious and questionable moral standards that the road test data published since that time is doubted and brought into question. He single handedly impunged an entire profession of auto journalists for several generations. Advertising in those days was based on deception and coercion so in that reagard he did what he was paid for. Of course a prostitute is paid to do what she does as well. His ability to drag race a car has not been questioned.

THE L-48 300HP 350 WITH THE OPTIONAL DUAL EXHAUST WOULD PUT YOU AT 345HP ACCORDING TO SOME GM SPEC. SHEETS, SO HE MAY NOT BE FAR OFF ON THAT ONE. THE REST OF THE AD IS QUITE SILLY.

His add says its a 427 but shows a small block in the engine bay.  Is he trying to say it was an original 427 car.

LOL...IT STILL HAS THE ENGINE TIE DOWN CABLES ON EACH SIDE. I WOULD THINK THE SMALL BLOCK ENGINE IS ORIGINAL AND HAS NEVER BEEN OUT OF IT.
