My long gone 1967 396 Chevelle was from Bob McDonald ChevOlds and I bought it from the original owner. I don't have any info on the dealership but many HP cars have came from them so hopefully others can chime in with some info. I think they closed down a long time ago. I bought many cars for resale in Halifax mostly from a Ford dealer as they would sell me their HP GM's cheap.

Thanks

Randy

I remember the dealership well, worked next door during their endtimes. Later worked with Gus Larue who had worked at Bob's for many years. He had lots of good stories and is a good old car guy.

I am trying to contact them to see if they remember a 1967 427 corvette that sold there new?? What was the address of the dealership in 67? Does anyone have any old pictures of the place?

Here's another MacDonald car Fred. It belongs to a friend of mine, L78,M21 300 Deluxe hardtop. He also has a MacDonald sold 69 Z-28, Dusk Blue, but I have no pictures of it.

By the way, what's the story on the Nova, what a great car!

Anybody remember the radio jingle?

"At Bob MacDonald Chevrolet... We run a very simple business..."

Seems to me he also had a commercial where he said he wouldn't sell a car that he wouldn't let his wife drive.

A friend's dad bought a '68 442 Olds there back in the day as well.  I sent him a link to the thread... maybe he'll sign up and add to the conversation... Jeff?  biggrin

My late sister was married to Ronnie Locke's son. I went to high school with Bob Mac Donald's daughter, Margo. Ron sold quite a few hi performance cars back then. He had a good connection at GM and was well known on the east coast of Canada as the go to guy for GM muscle.

Ron Locke used to run a pretty mean Camaro at Atlantic Motorsport Park (roadrace track) back in the seventies and eighties.  I've got some pictures of it somewhere... I'll scan them when I find them.  If I recall correctly it was sponsored by Bob MacDonalds...

Welcome!!!    love the history lesson    What do you drive now?    Remember the W30 Olds?   It was in Sackville   getting ragidy  3 speed instead of 4 speed  not sure if motor was gone  Peter Lerette  (Old Gold) tried to buy it back, and had no money  so the fellow traded him, the car, for Peters wifes new couch!   lol

I own the MacDonald Hugger Orange RS COPO Camaro. Restoration is complete and I will show the car at Autorama in Houston in 2 weeks. I was recently contacted by a gentlement in NS that indicated MacDonald had a second RS COPO that they raced (Burgundy with white interior). In my conversations with Ronnie and Bob this car was never mentioned. Anyone have history on this car? Thanks and much appreciated. I love the site.

If it's the same car I remember it being sold and driven on the street with chromed Rallye wheels on it.

I think it power windows also. It changed hands a few times and the last time I seen it was on a used car lot around 1971-72. There was a Black Panther 427 Camaro in Halifax at the same time that was also a former drag car.

You have to remember they were just used cars to most people and the new style Camaro, Trans Am as well as the Challenger, Cuda and Mustang were plentiful in those days.

I was a car freak and went to the drags as much as I could, so the old race cars were familiar to me. Very few others cared about them.

Thanks. Same with my car. Street raced and a daily driver. Second owner bougt it and then traded it for a Nova. 3rd owner sold it and bought a 73 vette. I remember getting rides with the 4th owner. He drove it to and from work. Apparently alot of dealers bought the highly optioned COPOs as show pieces (if not race cars) to get people into the showroom. They could then sell the a less expensive model.

The car showed well. 500 cars total and organizers said the Bluenose COPO drew the most people. Additrional photos can be seen at http://www.yenko.net/ubbthreads/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=469581#Post469581. The Canadian "oil" sticker was added to the inner fender after the photos (I'm sure that you guys will notice). Still some debate over the need for black rockers. We won second place in our class. Points were lost due to our original interior. It shows a bit of wear after 40+ years and lots of use (I refuse to change it for a trophy). I am looking to purchase an original Canadian Owners Manual. Can anyone here help?
Thanks and Best Regards
