headlight conversion

Is it legal to change old sealed beams

to newer HALOGEN lights ?

or XENON lights

Also when adjusting headlights what is the correct

distance from a wall and amount of drop..

or is it smarter to just get a shop to adjust them.

Thanks

i never check into legal but i had bought a halogen conversion kit for my bike 25 years ago. as i was getting ready to put it into my bike i noticed it was the same size bulb as my truck, needless to say i went down and picked up 2 more bulb. i'm still on the same elements in the beast. the kits were bosch. just went to a web site and noticed they also make xenon conversion kits now

I don't know of any legal restriction on changing your headlights.

I line them up on the wall of my shop then take the car out on the road and adjust them for visibility.

I had my first Acadian when I was 16 (longgggg ago!) and converted it to halogen sealed beams. To this day I have tried to run halogens in pretty much everything, more for deer than anything else.

It's getting tough to find the large round halogen sealed beams for our Acadians though.

My exact method too.  Try your dims and high beams and after a couple tries you will probably be bang on.  The halogens make such a difference.

Are relays needed for halogens?...

I've been okay with mine but I've talked to a couple guys who did put in relays.

With my halogen seal beams it's always worked fine with stock wiring too.

Thanks everyone, i will check local Lordco for Halogens today and see what they have.
I went out last night and found a wall and pointed them to what seemed okay
No one flashed their lights at me on the way home so i guess they are close !!

I run H4 halogen lights in all my old cars. On the 4 headlight units I always run a relay.

picked up 2 Halogen lights from Lordco, $20 each.
they even had aiming instructions on box
1. park 2-3 ft from wall on level ground, mark center of where lights shine
2. move back to 25-30 ft away and adjust to hit same spot..
