1960 Laurentian 261 Oil Filter and hoses

I was wondering if anyone has a source for, or part numbers for the supply and return oil hoses for the remote oil filter canister for a 1960 Laurentian?

Also, was this remote filter standard or an option on this car in 1960?

Thanks.

As far as I know, only the 1962 models used the remote partial flow oil filter. It was standard on the 235 Chevies & 261 Pontiacs that year. Prior to that it may have been a truck option.

My 261 in my 61 pontiac came without it, the customer would've had to get it installed later.

Okay thanks guys. So I guess this was an add-on then.

Does anyone know where I would be able to find the two oil hoses for it?

It was never standard on those 216, 235, 261 engines always an option and extra cost item. Only the American 261 inline sixes on the Chev trucks had full flow oild filters. Canadian Pontiac 261 engines never had them. You could order from the dealer a by pass system remote mounted oil filter that was mounted on the intake manufold. Also any parts jobber back then sold these units. It filtered a very small amount of oil at a time, which was better than nothing. You can buy these units at swap meets for a reasonable price usually under a $100.00. I have to add that the full flow oil filtered 261 inline sixes that were offered in Chevrolet trucks in the U.S. were as of 1958 not before. Canister filter elements are available for these units but are getting harder to find. If you find them for your particular unit, stock up on them. Hope this helps. Cheers. George.

Hoses can be made up new by outfits that deal with hydralic hoses, custom made. Try T.A.M. Toronto Auto Machine. in of all places Mississauga, Ontario. (905) 677-6686. George.

Here's a link to a webpage that details how to install a full flow remote oil filter on your stovebolt six:  http://www.speedprint.com/deves50/oilfilterinstall.php

I was thinking that if all else fails that I'd have to get those hoses made up so maybe that's what I'll do. Now, is anyone able to tell me what the hose lengths and fitting sizes are for each hose?

I don't have access to the car right now because it's in Manitoba and I'm here in Calgary but I'd like to have them made and ready for when I go back there at Christmas. I did take these pics before I left  but I can't tell from them about what size the fittings or hose lengths should be. I guess I should have meassured them when I was there but I was thinking that I'd just be able to buy a set.hmm

CdnGMfan, thanks for those links, they were quit interesting.

Is the car somewhere that one of us could go measure for you?

Thanks guys and 67custom for that part number.

Carl the car is near Dauphin so it's kind of remote. That okay though because if I can't find the proper hoses I'll just measure them up when I go back home for Christmas.

Al, I hate to have to be spoon fed but I'm having a heck of a time finding those hoses. I did find a set on-line in the States for a truck but because this filter was an "add-on" for the Laurentian I'm not 100% sure that they will be the right ones. Do you have a reliable source preferably in Canada for them?

I've also be reading and learning quite a bit about the 261 and the remote(beehive) filter kits. I'm wondering if hooking this kit back up will be as simple as removing the old oil plugs and re-installing the new hoses and filter? The pics I posted aren't that great but the hose from the canister to block near the oil pressure switch has long been removed and the ports plugged. The other hose is still attached to the block and canister and not plugged. There is no oil or indication of any oil ever being in the canister when I took the lid off... Any thoughts on that one?

Why is the one hose going over the valve cover to the other side of the motor? I have never seen this kind of hook up, usually both hoses are on the drivers side of the block. One to the sending unit of the oil presure gauge and the other to the fitting on the oil gallery on the block. Where is that other line going to in this photo? Is it going into the head? I am very curious about this please tell. Cheers. George.
