Lefty, those old Acadians & Chevy IIs were linkage boost power steering setups. I don't see how you could run it with the pump and without the "rams". If you have the pump mounted, just run the car as it without the belt.

Progress so far. 1. What a job to get the old "spear" box out !! Had to remove exhaust, gas pedal linkage and kick down. as well as stud for gas pedal and vacumn line "T" Most of this was due to the new Dual booster brake system The box would not clear i.
2. Was also fun to get the Pitman arm off the old one, had to go and find a 1 5/16 socket
new steering box bolted right in and now all i have to do is cut 3" off of the steering "sleeve"
