Antenna front or rear

New to Beaumonts, is the antenna in the front for customs & rear for SDs & SS models?? Have seen both, would like to know if it was a certain option or what the real answer is. Thanks

It is always on the front right fender on all models

Rear antennas were optional on all models   U73 manual or U75 power

I bought an NOS RH fender for my 65 and it has no hole. The used Quater panel I got had the rear option antenna. I know its not the way the car was built but I`m going with it.

I have always thought the rear antennas were extremely handsome on the 60's cars. I vote rear!

I vote for rear as well, just be careful because the drivers wheel house is longer because of the
gas filler tube, so it you want twin antennas and sloping ones do the drivers side first,
I forgot to check now i have to make a pocket in the wheel house !

The antenna is usually on the right front fender. The rear antenna was an option on Canadian Chevelles & Beaumonts but was very rare as a factory option in Canada. Dealers of course would put the antenna front or rear, wherever the customer wanted. The rear mounting was extra cost because of the longer antenna lead-in. The rear antenna was not offered with an AM/FM radio because of the necessity for a shorter cable for proper FM reception (plus they used a fixed length, non-telescopic 31" mast for FM). Corvettes of the period had AM/FM radios with rear antennas because the lead-in could be short on that 2-seater.

Your obviously right about it being optional however I don't have the codes mentioned on either of my 68 convertibles and one has it on the rear and the other on the front. Both are am radios however one doesn't list the am radio on the option sheet so I imagine it was added by the dealer and the antenna placed on the rear fender. Does that sound like a plausable explanation?

I vote rear. Much smoother looking. Gives the perception of movement.

OK I will wade in on this one. I vote front. It just looks right to me.

I'll vote front... it stands out too much in the rear, on the front it can be tilted back and align more with the windshield pillar, in the back it just wants to fall off...on a 50's-early 60's full size, twin rear.

Very interesting thread and opinions. I've drilled holes in the rear quarter on brand new cars just days after taking delivery and moved them to the rear from the front. It's a pet peeve of mine, I can not stand an antenna on the front fender.  The only vehicle I ever put up with on the front fender is my Suburban.......no where else to put it.

We have done the same at our dealership Ray. We have a customer who inists on rear antennas (as do I also) and we've painted a front fender on a brand new car after the antenna hole was welded shut!

Yup did exactly that on my 86 Monte Carlo SS.  about a week after delivery.  After that most of my cars had rear power antenna. All my Cadillacs have been power rear, Bonnevile power rear, Olds 88 power rear....

When I buy my new fenders for my Beaumont there is no way I am going to drill a hole for an antenna. Will be going in the back were it should have been in the first place.
