new shoes for my 68 2+2

I pursued a few projects on the 68 2+2 this past year;

Dual exhaust

Full brake job

New rims and tires

I bought a set of reproduction dual exhaust and installed it myself with the car. I had the car on a set of jack stands. What a fiasco, took me a full day of grovelling under the car with the exhaust pipes right in my face. It was satisfying to do it myself, but I should have just paid the extra money and let a muffler shop do the job. A fully equipped shop could have done the job 1 to 2 hours.

The 2+2 still has drum brakes. I changed out the wheel cylinders, had the drums turned, replaced the shoes and repacked the front wheel bearings. The car stops about the same, but I now have more confidence in the brakes.

The original wheels were 14 steel with hub caps, I have them in storage.

Last year I had a set of 15 Pontiac Rally 2 rims on the car, but I always have liked the look of the Chevrolet Rally wheels on Canadian Pontiacs. I acquired a set of 15 Chevy Rally wheels and trim rings, 7 for the front and 8 on the back. Refinished with sand blasting, rattle can paint job and added a set of red line tires; 215x60 on the front and 255x60 on the rear. I went cheap on the centre caps. The low profile caps that were correct for a 68 Canadian Pontiac would have cost about 320$ to purchase a new set. So I when with the taller, fluted centre caps, 85$ from EBay. I like the final look of the car in its new shoes.

I am about done with major projects on this car; all I want to do now is drive it.

Looks good, really good.

I still have the original 14 inch rims and hubcaps on mine. I like them both.

Question about the fins on your front fenders ? Are they painted body colour with the back edge left chrome exposed ? Is that stock ? My fins are all chrome, no paint on them at all.

Your car looks great. I remember the fun I had hanging the dual exhaust while lying on my back under my 69 Laurentian..

Responding to Scott's(landshark 68 2+2) question.....The faux vent louvers on fenders of my 68 2+2 were originally a combination of body colour and chrome. They were refinished of course, but in the same style as the factory had them.

Lookin good Vaughan!!!! I have the same combo on my Grande, 8's on the back and 7's up front.. No redlines though, and I have flat, baby moon style centres. I've added the trim rings since this pic was taken.

The red line looks good, but i'm more about matching colors, if it was mine i would go with the white line. Have fun driving it, your car look amazing!

It took me a moment to recognize the car and the setting in sixtywagons photo. That is my car, early in the morning (judging by the shadows) at the High River Alberta car show. An excellent show, there were about 1400 cars there this year. If you spent just one minute looking at each car it would take you over 23 hours. That is what I call too much of a good thing!
