Dragstrip times?

Anyone ever haul their full-size to the track (please, timeslips, not speculation - we all know it'd run tens if you didn't miss that shift that time )?

My best was a 12.9 - though that was with headers, and I've since gone back to factory manifolds, so it's slower now.

I saw a magazine review of the '69 Impala SS 427/390 and it ran 16.9 in the quarter... these are heavy cars!

To run a sub 13.00 takes a lot power, and traction. 16.9 was about right for a full size back in the day. It took lots of $$$ and mods to my 70 Torino 429 SCJ to run a 12.95 in the mid 70's

I did it with 500hp/567ftlb and 4.11 posi with a bit of converter.  The big deal was the lauch - I have South Side Machine Lift bars (basically a lower pivot point for the lower control arms, sort of visible in the photo).  With 90/10 shocks up front and drag radials it would launch hard off the converter every time with no wheelspin.

I have a 5-speed in it now, and though it might in theory be quicker I could probably never launch it as well...

MY '66 BISCAYNE WAS VERY SIMILAR TO CARLS CHIEF ONLY WITH 4:10 SPOOL AND TALL 15" TIRES. IT RAN ABOUT THE SAME TIME AND MPH AS CARLS. I WILL SEE IF I CAN FIND ANY OLD TIME-SLIPS TO POST.
