Here's a picture of me and my (long-since departed) Dad changing plates on the car in 1970, when I was 2, and then here's me and my kids doing it 40 years later.  Same car, same plate number (first plate was Saskatchewan, current plate is Washington).

Indeed, though I've added a few kids since that older photo.

With my luck it'll be the girl that winds up being the car nut, though the boys do enjoy working on stuff, not to the extent I did.  We'll see!
