Here is a book I used to do some research for my 454 swap.  I have scanned a couple of pages that detail the Big Block Engine family by RPO code and basic design characteristics of those engines. 

This might be helpful in answering those questions that always crop up like "What is the difference in an LS4 and LS5?" etc...
